Rivian site still lists this SC as “In the works”. But it’s open, obviously. My Guide told me this is where they are shipping my R1T to for pickup. Hopefully the in-vehicle navigation has it listed as active as well

Glad this is finally open. This will be my closest SC until PA can get their heads out of their rear ends and allow manufacturer owned service locations other than for Tesla. About 2 hours away, but way better than 6+ to Brooklyn when you factor in traffic.
Given the depth of insertion and the sheer muscle strength of the corrupt dealer network and their politicians they share a bed with, I don't see this happening for years, if ever. Better chance of Tesla getting booted out IMO. Sad but true.

It's great that the Gaithersburg SC is open, but it may not do much for those of us in PA or NJ. My Rivian guide told me that those of us who live north of the Mason & Dixon line will still be required to use the Brooklyn SC.

I was able to use a Delaware location as my delivery address, which spares me the drive to Brooklyn to pick up my Rivian, but I will still need to use that service center until one of NJ locations come on line.

I'm in DC and had a work trip in richmond and went and creeped on some Rivians at the service center. I was trying to find an El Cap R1S and a white R1S (can't decide on color) but they had everything way behind a barbed wire fence and only a few models out in the parking lot.
I've been having the same debate on color - ended up selecting white, but I go back and forth almost daily (and am now officially "configured" for a white - whatever that means!)

That might make some sense for delivery, but I'd have to imagine for service you could use whichever SC you would want, you just might have to wait longer. I'm in south central PA, and was having a problem with my spare tire hatch, they wanted me to take it to Boston for service!! I declined that, they recommended Brooklyn but said it would be a longer wait. As luck would have it, the second recall came out shortly thereafter, and I just had them check it when they came to my house for the recall.

Where is the south Jersey SC supposed to built? I’m near Reading, PA, so equidistant from Brooklyn and Gaithersburg, but the trip to NY is horrible.

There is meant to be one in Trenton and one in Edison so significantly closer than Brooklyn. I am in MontCo PA and am eagerly awaiting any information on these NJ service centers.

My guide stated pretty plainly that that your address of record (Delco for me) determines your "permanent" service center assignment, Brooklyn in my case and for everyone else in the eastern part of the Commonwealth. Hopefully you can request a service appointment in places other than your assigned SC, but that's not actually the sense that I got during my conversation. In fact, when the guide processed the the revised delivery address (Wilmington, DE), she took pains to point out several times that even though delivery would be via WDC (now likely Gaithersburg), I was still assigned to Brooklyn for service.

As you point out Brooklyn is very busy, and that's not likely to change until more SC's come on line. A long wait for service there seems pretty much unavoidable. As @Guy and @BradSholl note, many of us in eastern PA are roughly the same distance from Gaithersburg and Brooklyn, but the unpleasant drive to the latter takes much longer. The old saw about "adding insult to injury" comes to mind.

Just because Rivian says you are "assigned" to a certain SC doesn't mean you can't plead your case. I think Rivian would likely allow it however Gaithersburg has a very long wait as well. I believe they are currently scheduling in October unless the vehicle is out of commission.

They wanted me to have my T towed into Capitol Heights (non customer facing) when I declined to have it towed they scheduled me in for Richmond but then moved the same appt to Gaithersburg in mid June knowing that it would be open.

So you could get scheduled in Brooklyn or Gaithersburg but moved when a closer SC opens.

R1S - April 2021 preorder
Picked up my R1S there Monday. Very nice interior and waiting area.

For those waffling on colors, wheels, etc, they had 30+ new R1Ss there earlier this week. Only color missing was canyons red and yellow. But they had those on R1Ts. Very easy to drive around back of service center and look at all the trucks. No fencing, etc.

So I have an appointment there on Sept 19th for a lot of little things (first service visit, rotate tires, loud closing charge port cover, rear gate alignment, backup light recall, etc). ...

... hearing some horror stories on various forums of people having their Rivians there for a week before they are even touched and then it taking a LONG time to get the service done. Any thoughts on this? Maybe I can try to call the manager and talk to him before I go? (anyone know how to contact them?)

None of my issues are critical and I would rather just wait until later when they aren't so overloaded instead of go without our R1S for weeks.
