EDIT:

Just took delivery today R1S 2024, Quad, Limestone w/ Forest. Pretty slick.

I tried to search for this, but only saw a partial answer(s). The main concern/question is surrounding access to the data stored on the hard drive. Specs below

1. Is it possible to view/review footage from the gear guard and driver footage remotely? I have the Samsung T7 Shielded 1TB drive (killer deal on Amazon for $89.99 this week) connected, but I'm not sure if anyone has found a way to access that data on the hard drive remotely - it seems impossible since it's not stored on the actual car, but the drive - but I wanted to ask.
2. Is there a live view of the cameras? My 2022 BMW has this feature where I can see a live view; it seems odd that this tech beast doesn't have something like this. Coming CONNECTED+ it seems
3. What happens if someone breaks in your car and steals the hard drive? Seems like if I'm a criminal breaking into a Rivian, that's the first spot I'm going to steal the drive unless it's being redundantly being backed up to some cloud elsewhere?
4. How do you get notified if someone is approaching your car and/or breaks in - I have seen some people say it's coming in an update a while ago, but haven't seen any helpful recent updates.

TIA - looking forward to getting some of the other services connected and set up and the drop of the subscription.

1) Not currently but coming soon
2) same as #1
3) the SSD is used for drive cam and motion cam. The incidents are stored on internal storage. Those have to be manually offloaded to SSD so if someone breaks in and steals the drive the incident footage still remains. Though any motion footage before the even might be lost.
4) currently no app notification for motion events. There is supposed to be an app alert if the alarm is triggered. I have never seen this in action though and hope I never do.

Rivian will continue to improve this function with time. You can send feedback and feature requests through the Rivian app too.

Gear Guard is really totally useless, as you suspect. By your questions, I can tell you're surprised that the whole things is just as dumb as it seems to be. It is. Also the alarm notifications in the app are clueless; no indication as to what did it.

There a few good posts of car break-ins and Gear Guard capturing it. In one of the post the person breaking in was nabbed based on the Gear Guard video. So good to have the feature although it could use enhancements suggested above
