The manual states that a USB-C drive in the center console can store gear guard footage. Is that footage redundantly stored within the Rivian vehicle as well? I'm curious what happens if a thief takes the USB-C thumb drive along with everything else in the cab.

It's stored on the truck by default for 7 days. If you want it on the USB Drive, you have to manually select "copy to USB" in the gear guard.

That might change in the future when we get things like the dashcam mode, but that's how it is as of now.

I'd love to see auto-copy to USB-C with no deletion for long term monitoring, e.g. "vacation mode". I'm looking forward to dash cam mode. Yay for OTA feature upgrades!

Hopefully the electronic center console is disabled with the much needed security flaw fix. This will help prevent theft and secure the center console if someone were to break in.

Even if it locked it wouldn’t matter. The latch is plastic and it wouldn’t resist even a moderate tug.
