I think you had your answer when you said NJ, that should explain the cold shoulder.

What’s up with fellow Rivian owners in my part of NJ?! There is a growing number of us on the road and, like when driving our Wrangler, I wave or (in the absence of an ā€˜official’ Rivian greet) flash my lights. The response? Nothing, zilch, nada. They don’t even look as they go past. Obviously jealous that they wish they’d spec’ed El Cap on 22’s but I can’t help their shortsightedness!
I think at this point, I've had more Rivian drivers just ignore me than wave. I'm starting to see them pretty regularly too. I literally wave at every one I see since there are "only a handful" at this point. That just means there's more people that aren't on the forums and are just driving a car than enthusiasts like us.

I wish there was an option for the vehicles to talk to each other. I'd love to have a little custom emote-like thing with Gary saying "hey-o" whenever I drove by another friend-o.

Flash your hazards a few times. Best way to communicate, since many will have tinted windows and windshields.

I've only been ignored by 1 other Rivian. Everyone else I come across in BC is hands out the window/lights flashing like a techno rave ??

I stopped waving after the 4th time of being ignored. It seems as though people are generally preoccupied with something else. Phone, new data on dash, admiring their R1, lost in thought, etc.

I concur with the UK practice. I’m from the UK and if you don’t raise a hand in thanks/acknowledgment - that’s the rarity. And no offense to my fellow New Jersians, but your driving generally sucks. There are these things called mirrors. Maybe use them once in a while. Sorry, soap box has been put away now
Not only mirrors, but those things behind the steering wheel that tell other drivers what you intend to do. I believe they are called "turn signals" over here, "indicators" in the UK (i.e. indicating what I would like to do). And if you see a light at the back corner of a car flashing away, it means that driver would like to pull out in that direction. Perhaps ease off the gas and let them out??

Nah ... doesn't happen.

The Rivian Wave, for the most part, really isn’t a thing. Here in Colorado I do see (and return) a lot of waves but I think there is a pretty large community here when it comes to Rivian. But I have seen that fall off a bit as the vehicle becomes REALLY common on our roads. Of course I also have a Wrangler and we send/receive waves all the time.

But really, you can’t do anything about other people. You can only do something about yourself. Many of those people you wave to simply aren’t expecting it so don’t sweat it. Who knows, you might be brightening someone’s day.

I’m in the Bay Area (Benicia/Vallejo) area. I see a few every so often. There’s one truck I see very often in Benicia. Older biker guy who gives a wave every time.

Saw a Silver R1S in Martinez today. I drove passed them and honked but they just stared at me. ?

It gets a bit old having to wave at everyone on the road. All of my vehicles are 'special' or niche, so the other drivers of similar vehicles often wave. It's nice, but it gets tiresome. It was the same when we first got our Tesla; it was fun when there were only a few dozen in town. But now that there are over 2000 Tesla owners in our small city, its pointless and annoying. Town is now choker-bock full of Rivians. We don't need to wave at each other every time we pass. We're not buddies, we just happened to buy the same car.

Saw a Rivian R1T driver across the intersection from me at a red light today, was going to flash, but noticed he was on his phone, while at the light and after he started moving through the intersection. Didn't want to distract his texting, so I didn't flash him.

P.S. I said to my wife "Hey look, another Rivian", she said "where?"! Even after a year, she has no idea what other Rivians look like.

Last year, here in Bend, R1T owners used to wave all the time. Now there are so many R1T’s & R1S’ we don’t bother anymore. Kinda sad, really.
