Guide "soft matched" me to a truck in Normal a week ago; still no VIN in account

I read someone's post about a similar situation ages ago, where their guide found them a truck and said that it would be matched, but weeks (months?) went by and it just never happened.

My guide tells me that there is a manual step involved in the matching process, that the truck is soft matched to my account, and that we have to wait for the hard match to be performed.

I trust my guide, but I don't necessarily trust anything from Rivian that involves them doing something regarding an order. Does anyone have experience with this?

I am in the same boat, guide found a truck in Normal already built (has the 20” brights instead of the standard 20”s) but I said I’d take it.
my guide adjusted my configuration to match the already-built truck and explained similarly that now that my configuration has an exact match, someone else will manually match it in their system and then I’d join the 8 step buying process.

she said it should take a week, I’m on day 6 and compulsively checking my email lol

My guide said 6 weeks conservatively to get it to Maryland but could be quicker

So I get a slightly different story from our guide. We confirmed our configuration early last week. Our guide told us the "order ops" team does the official matching of vehicles to orders. They also apparently sent out confirmation emails to a bunch of folks who are still a month or two from delivery without actually matching vehicles. We are waiting on our 8-steps, and out guide thinks it will be this week. We were told last week we're likely 3-4 weeks from delivery.

I went through this matching process with an R1S. I had told my Guide I would accept a car slightly differently configured than my order to get it earlier. My guide matched me to an R1S LG in Chicago (I live in Maryland) that had the 20 AT wheels and bottom shield (I had ordered 21s and no shield). The manual matching process took a week. It all worked out well. From the date the Guide notified me of the potential match to delivery was about ten days. Pretty smooth.

That's what I wanted to hear. Thank you! Fingers crossed mine progresses today / tomorrow. Just sold my EV6 today so I need a ride :)

Rivian has many units built on the ground in Normal, IL and around the country at Service Centers. Most of these units are without tonneau cover. I've been told the final stage in matching is to actually update the vehicle's built configuration to include a manual tonneau cover, should you have elected that option.

My guide matched me to a new R1T last week, and I'm still sitting on the "Configuration confirmed" and "Processing Estimate" screen in the Rivian Portal. I was also told as soon as the configs are updated to include the manual tonneau cover, the 8-steps will reopen for completion.

Yeah - my guide changed mine to manual tonneau as well. Still in "Configuration confirmed" and "Processing estimate" also. Now I'm refreshing the page even more ;p

Feels like Rivian is loading up a big train full of R1Ts to Richmond.

That would be nice if they did a big push to the Richmond SC. My first delivery agent told me they were running 10-15 vehicles a day in Q3.

Someone from the Richmond SC who's in-charge of PDI and delivery scheduling will contact you a few days before delivery. I highly recommend you ask whoever contacts you to have the service center check the alignment and provide you an alignment report upon delivery.

This is something I recommend to anyone now. Had a huge headache with my first R1T and alignment issues among other things. Took the service center two appointments to make it better, but not fixed; still pulls right.

@MichaelD
what you are describing sounds like batching issue.
You are eligible to have your name called, i.e. prepare to build your truck, but they are not ready to do that configuration build in large numbers to justify the effort.

Because you want a Yellow and OC combo, the earliest delivery looks to be April 2023 for someone who is in California, and guess what--that is my entry. Therefore i will watch your progress closely if you happen to get a VIN sooner than April.

This is kinda what my guide told us and I’ve seen a lot of reports of people in the DC area say they locked their confirmations in the past week.

April 2023 was the opening date for my R1S window (also yellow/oc). R1T CY+OC order windows start in January, but that's ignoring the ones that were recently built -- one of which is sitting in Normal and has my name on it. I was sent to the head of line the instant I switched to the truck because my reservation date is 3 years before yours.
