Has anyone here purchased a "preowned" R1T? I think not.

I notice a lot of people here thinking they have a quick $10-$20k+ of equity built in their trucks. However, as I research the used trucks out there, many of them have been listed for 45+ days with huge price drops and are still for sale. Then, to rub salt in the wound when someone (here) says they are considering a used truck, folks reply "I would stay away from a used truck that an owner probably traded because of issues", "a lot of people won't buy a first-year model", and "I wouldn't pay a dime over MSRP". Yet, those same people think they have a truck worth $100K+.

I hate to break it to you guys, but factoring in the risk of first-year anything, and folks who won't pay over MSRP, severely limits your potential buyers. THEN to limit it even further, you need a buyer looking for $100k EVs, let alone having $100k to spend on a vehicle in the first place. You think a gal with $100k to spend on an EV's is going to buy someone's traded-in first-year Rivian?

Is it obvious that Rivian "suddenly" has a huge amount of R1T's in the Rivian Shop?

Assuming I still take delivery in 2-weeks, I give my fully-loaded Rivan a BEST shot at being worth maybe $70k in 24 months if I'm lucky.

Disagree with me, please! I'd love to see what I'm missing here.

The most credible explanation for the sudden increase in R1 shop trucks was the threat of a railroad strike.

Just speculating but I think resale prices will stay high until Rivian can produce enough R1s to ease demand. Unless something bad happens there will only be more customers looking to buy, not less. Prices may not be $120k high but still high IMHO. And there are more people willing to spend that on a vehicle in the US than you think… A fully loaded ICE F-150 Platinum is over $90k if I recall, as are many larger pickups.

Rivian's end of the quarter is at the end of this month. They are trying to push vehicles out the door into people's hands.

You still can't easily get an R1 if you don't have a reservation that was done at least 6 months ago. Many people are still waiting with several year old reservations. Most of the trucks listed for sale on websites like autotrader are a lot higher than "market value" which seems to be around $100k right now. There's a glut of vehicles for sale because people bought them thinking they'd be able to resell for a quick 5 figure profit.

Quite a few posters here have bought second hand trucks to get into one faster.

Honestly, I think due to interest rates, inflation, etc....there may have been some cancelations. But I'm sure the trucks will be scooped up quickly.

Agreed, on face value... But when you look, most of these trucks aren't selling at those inflated prices. Do we have a single member here who purchased a R1T for 100k+? Dealerships can ask $120k until their blue in the face, but my feeling is the people who traded those in took their crazy overinflated check and ran for the hills. Dealers took a bad gamble, and they are not dummies seeing other dealers with 45-60+ day unsold Rivian's sitting on their lots.

Well, to be fair we have no actual idea how many pre-owned Rivians have been sold, or even at what prices they were sold at. There have been a couple of forum members who started threads after buying third party, but I don’t think they even said what they paid. So, you could be 100% correct but we just don’t know.

Obviously there is demand for these vehicles, but as more are out there for sale, the laws of supply/ demand would suggest those sky-high prices will probably have to come down. So if you aren’t right at the moment you probably will be in the future:cool:

Yes, we are definitely missing the sales data. But if you look at the trucks for sale for so long, that tells a big piece of the story. It looks like a majority of them are not selling.

What does eBay take off the top on a car sale? I haven't sold a car on eBay in decades, but I know off my paltry sales of used computer parts they like to eat >20% of my sales in fees. Figure a $120k Rivian sold on that site would barely pay the seller back for their original cost, after all fees are accounted for. ?

To me most auctions have recently ended at around $100k for a used R1T. About the same as the current post March 1 pricing. May not really be worth flipping after taxes/titles/tags for a lot of people. Some people are asking for high prices because they will sell if they can get it, otherwise just keep the truck. As for the dealers that have them on their lot, its the same thing, ask for more ($120k), and if someone offers $110k, its still profit. The other thing with a Rivian on a dealers lot is they can tell customers "Look how expensive that one is, let me show you something that we sell that is cheaper", and most customers won't check the direct price from Rivian price themselves. Where will the used price be in 2 years,, hard to say, but probably lower if supply constraints loosen up. If you think a used R1T will be worth $70k in two years, that isn't too bad f you have pre-March 1 pricing. Cars are rarely investments.

What's the point of this thread?
The point is to ask if there are any members here who purchased on the used market. It amazes me how many people have their heads stuck in the clouds, that's all. I suppose I could post more entertaining topics like the utter disappointment of my key fob battery needing replacement. :headbang:

Oh, my bad, it appears to be more about selling a R1T.

There is a dealer in Manheim PA that has, at last look 6 Rivian R1T's listed for sale and on the lot for ~ $120,000. They do not seem to be moving them at that price.
