On the flip side I know of about a handful of non-rivian employees who have received their truck and are not on here. One of the original ones was IwantaTesla that people seem to conveniently forget about.

There's also not a great way to tell if it was an employee or not, but this week my wife did happen to see an R1T in the Seattle area that had a recent temp "plate" on it and isn't one of the December employee deliveries that I remember seeing.
I have no idea whose guess is the best on what is happening with deliveries. While everything may be going according to schedule, production is ramping up, and deliveries are being made, it just seems strange to me, being zero communication from Rivian. Especially when they promised to do a better job in communicating. Maybe they're waiting until after they rearrange the estimated delivery dates.

Brice, do you happen to know if any of these non-employees you know about have shared their pre-order date and what their email estimated delivery dates were?

There are several on this forum that have Jan/Feb estimated delivery dates. Unless by some chance they've already been notified, or taken delivery and decided not to make it known, there won't be any January deliveries to any members of this forum.

I included the pre-order date and estimated delivery dates in my signature. I think IwantaTesla has chosen not to share this information, which he and all the others have a right to do, but I was wondering if the others you know about, feel the need to keep this information private as well.

Yeah, it's a little weird!

Nope. No useful info basically.

My dentist’s ex boyfriend’s mom knows a guy who’s neighbors with someone who works with someone who knows someone that has an R1T!

But nobody can determine if it is an employee/affiliate so it probably isn’t real.

I am sure Rivian is making some deliveries.

But how many? To who?

Sites like this bring enthusiast and those are the people more likely than not to have ordered early. They have researched and daydreamed about it to a level someone in the general public wouldn't.

One would think some of those folks are probably closer to the beginning of the reservation line or make up a larger percentage of it. Those are the people that are going to rush to be the first to tell us everything they know we want to know.

My theory is based on the belief if there is any decent volume/deliveries happening, someone on here would get a vehicle soon. Otherwise I'd be more inclined to believe it's a literal smattering of non employee deliveries still, as opposed to being a statistical thing.

Oh, it's definitely a smattering so far.

The silence coming out of Rivian right now is horrendous. They were quiet like this before when things were really really bad and RJ promised they wouldn't do that again and they promised to keep everyone updated. I've lost so much respect for this company over the last year... and it has nothing to do with the delays. It is how they are treating all of us reservation holders. RJ is starting to try and mimic Musk a little too much me thinks.... unfortunately I don't think RJ is anywhere near as smart as Elon.
Rivian certainly can improve communication. But I'd disagree with your parallels of RJ and Elon. If we get to the point where RJ is promising autonomous driving or something else completely "out there" for 9 years in a row, maybe.

More stirring the pot…

in RJs December email before the delivery estimate email came out he said there are several hundred employee orders, which are the ones that they’re testing delivery, insurance, etc with… if they delivered 920 to customers by EOY2021 and say 500 were employees (more than several hundred for arguments sake), that leaves maybe 400 delivered to non-employees by EOY21. We don’t know what the split of R1s to delivery vans is, but I’m still of the mind that many more have been delivered than we hear on this board. This board represents enthusiasts and early preorder holders for sure, but we’re still in Jan/feb window.

Any thoughts on where these EOY deliveries went? Bezos daily burner cars?? Some dude hoarding all LE models? These are the questions that keep me up at night!

I prefer to be a bit more optimistic instead of looking for more reasons to be a downer. But that said, I’m also not 3+ years into waiting, so I appreciate that some folk on here are over it. If February passes without a decent chunk of deliveries starting to show up on here for early LE preorder holders, I think the pitchforks are truly warranted!

I decided to speed up my delivery. I changed my order from an R1S to Amazon Delivery Vehicle, in Launch Gray with Blue Smiley and off-road tires. As a Prime member, I get free delivery...

Died of old age during the wait
I think there have been virtually no deliveries to outsiders (non employee/family/investor/etc). I don’t expect everyone to post here, but we do get sightings of delivery trucks loaded with R1Ts, encounters with owners in the wild, posts about what’s on Instagram, FB, Reddit, etc. We usually know when things are picking up, and there’s no sign of that now.

It really feels like Rivian is deploying its usual playbook of making a token gesture to meet an announced deadline but not continuing after that gesture is made. Think about guide contacts last May, September’s “beginning” of deliveries(which were limited to employees), and the R1S “deliveries” to RJ and the CFO only to meet an end of year deadline. Those things happened, and then back to silence from Rivian, with real activity starting much later.

Even iwantatesla’s delivery appears to have been an aberration. Its been weeks since he started posting and we have heard of no other regular joe outsider customers even getting a delivery date! This can be traced to the production pause for retooling, but it still doesn’t point to a lot of optimism that they’ll stick to the late 2021 delivery schedule.

I don’t think there are any other confirmed outsider deliveries we’ve seen, whether or not the owners posted themselves.

All this to say: we’ll know when things pick up. There’ll be signs. We aren’t seeing them now, and we can all draw reasonable conclusions from that.

One thing I'm not sure people noted in the "we've seen truckloads of R1Ts" is the fact that Rivian has to distribute hundreds of R1Ts to their service centers/various areas for demo drives, service loaners, showcars, etc.. This is just an absolute necessity for them to reach the scale they are aiming for. Eventually they'll have to do the same for the R1S.

I would assume they need somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 vehicles to satisfy those immediate needs and those cars are going out before customer deliveries.

As of Wednesday, my Nov '18 pre-order is being built for Feb. The wording of the conversation is not "confirmed, see you on Tuesday" just "confident."
I'm confident.
Did you get that info from your Guide?

This is a good point! That said, the email stated 920 deliveries to customers at the end of 2021. Definitely curious if customers can be defined as the service centers and if there are only a couple service centers built/open it’s seems a lot still.

I doubt that they would burn through the production line vehicles for those. They already have a lot of the vehicles they built while qualifying the line. They will probably use those as an interim fleet.
