The vertical headlight design has become Rivian's prime identifying feature. I did not like it at first, but it has grown on me. If they were to change the headlight design to horizontal, the Rivian would lose it's primary unique design feature and look like everything else out on the road. It would be like Alfa Romeo deleting their horse collar grill that sets them apart from all others.

I agree.

If you were to turn a Rivian's headlights to the horizontal position, an R1S would become a Ford Flex. Isn't it already bad enough that the Rivian R3 is a visual copy of a 1978 Plymouth Horizon?

Actually kinda dig the one on the right.
I think the look of a linear light bar is clean, but the branding is lost. From a distance it looks like one of many vehicles with a horizontal light bar: some Hyundais, at least one Mercedes, the Lucid Air, and others I’m forgetting. I wasn’t a huge fan of the stadium lights when I saw the prototype in 2018, but the first time I saw a Rivian driving towards me I knew what it was from at least 1/2 mile before I saw it, and I instantly understood why they did it.

The look also grew on me for being friendly and approachable compared to the squinting/scowling/angry/aggressive look so many manufacturers use to make a product appear tough. I like that Rivian makes a capable product which doesn’t broadcast that the product is trying to be something it isn’t or the owner is compensating for something they don’t have.

I like the vertigo cartoon eyes headlights. Makes the vehicle distinctive and gives it a personality.
I don’t like what Toyota did with the new Land Cruiser by giving it two different front headlight designs. They should have picked one and just stayed with it.
