For that reason I went with a closed loop vertical well geothermal heat pump when I built my house 8 years ago. It’s always a balmy 54 degrees 100 feet underground winter or summer in my area. It’s more expensive to install but the 30% tax credit made it a wash.
Ground source heat pumps were a popular thing here for a while. Seem less popular now, probably because gas is so cheap.

my uncle has a lakefront place in NW Ontario, it has a heat pump. As it‘s Canadian Shield out there - Precambrian granite - his source is the lake. drilling isn’t really possible.

he is constantly fretting about the supplemental resistive heat coming on when not there, as hydro is very expensive in Ontario 🤣

Plenty of folks responding to that video saying they see much better performance from their Tesla's ptc than reflected in the video.
Curious why theirs didn't perform then. I honestly thought the PTC heater would perform better than the heat pump at those temps.

Complexity increase, also they only work well in a certain temp range. Resistive heater is still needed for very cold temps.
Bingo. If you live in more temperate parts of the US where your winters aren't in the single or negative digits, a heat pump might work OK but for the rest of the country, a heat pump is going to struggle. As Tesla owners how well their heat pumps work in frigid temperatures.
