Had the truck a week and have 750 miles on it. Yesterday attempting to back out of a parking lot the truck said something about needing to cool, then I got a system fault message and that it needed service. Seconds later it let me put it in gear and I drove it home just fine. The error is gone.

I contacted service and got a call back very quickly. They said it's hard to say what the issue was, but that one thing I should do is when I get anything like this again to hit the hazard lights on and off quick and that somehow time stamps the error so they can track it better? Never heard of that one before.

I'm not super concerned at this point. My Tesla has done some weird stuff as well from time to time.

They should implement the "report bug" issue Tesla has had for a long time. You just use the voice command to say "report bug" or "report issue", and then describe the issue. The car then sends off a bug report, and I assume handles attaching any relevant information, too.

I'm not 100% sold this ever worked for me, but we used to report weird issues regularly (especially with early autopilot).

ooof. the more I hear stories like this, the more it seems that the Rivian software team isn't up to a professional level. Any time that error message comes on, it should have a distinct entry in the log, you should need to use the hazard button to add something that the programmers can ctrl+f search for in the log.

The only reason I can see them saying this is to address user error. I.E. if the user saw a message and thought it meant one thing, or maybe misremembered what it said, then the hazard stamp gives them a search point.

Ev logs have long long lines of code and having a marker in the log allows the service team to have a reference point to help them find out more about what’s going on. Over 6 years, errors have happened occasionally with my Teslas. These vehicles are in their infancy and new issues will arise for a long while. Also, everytime there’s a software update, new bugs will be introduced. Just look at PC’s - we’ve had them for a few decades now and they still have bugs. Just a fact of life and a part of being an early adopter.
