High Capacity Battery (Lucky me?)

Before I take victory lap, I just want to see how uncommon this battery is.

So after learning that the Gen 1 Large pack is 131 kWh I always wondered why my battery always showed up around 138 kWh. Using Rivian Roamer or ABRP you can see the battery size in kWh, which is also helpful in measuring degradation.

Whenever I charge to 100%, I have to drive about 20+ miles or so before that 100% drops to 99%. Just drove 280 miles to Chicago and arrived with 75 miles of range left. 75 MPH the whole way.

I synced up Rivian Roamer last night and this is what I found --

36,000 miles

105.5% original spec capacity.

So you have a max pack Dual motor. Just not software locked. Somebody else once posted the same thing. Lucky dude

I would assume one of two things is happening, both of which caused by some software issue.

A. Your battery BMS for whatever reason is reporting the entire capacity of you pack, rather than just the typical unreserved net kWh like us peons see via Roamer. Typically 135-141kWh gross, 131kWh or less net.

B. Somehow your vehicle has a limited run of Large+ batteries (software locked Max pack) that for some reason, the vehicle is recognizing as a Large pack, but with max pack capacity 149kWh gross, 141kWh net for user. Which makes sense give your current 138.3kWh

The reserved buffer generally only gets shown in capacity during the winter months. This really just seems like an anomalous battery. Though I'd be interested to see how far you could drive it.

Do a full charge from 0%-100% to see the real usable capacity for sure instead of relying on API data. You won't be able to profit in resale from this, but it makes buying at end of lease (if you are leasing), or holding for long term, much more compelling. Drive well.

I'll have to do that just to see the kWh consumed and see how that lines up with the 138+ that has hovered in this range since day 1.

At 75 mph I could get 360 miles out of a charge while quite a few people claim they would never make that.

I'm not sure where the main R&D for battery systems is located, I'm sure a Rivian engineer could clear this up.

There's a landscaping business near me that has a drive on scale. I might swing by there and toss the guy a $20 to let me drive over it.
