I’ve owned a Kia Niro EV for a few years now, and their battery care instructions seem to make a bit of sense to me, and I’m employing the practice on my R1T as well. We’ve seen no discernible change in range on the Niro.

In a nutshell: general daily use, charge as needed to 80%. Each month or two, drain the battery down to at least 20%. Also each month or two, charge to 100%. Never leave the battery for prolonged periods below 20% or at 100%.

The theory behind this is to cycle each individual cell through its capacity range and charge back to its full capacity, which also balances all of the cell capacity and discharge rates within in the pack. Cells that are kept only within a nominal range can ‘forget’ their capacity and discharge rates… and over time will have different discharge curves causing cells degradation and an unbalanced battery pack. Ultimately, you want all cells to operate as similarly as possible for proper operation and longevity.

Anywho, makes sense to my brain. ;)

I have noting to add to the battery health comments here, but I do think it's worth pointing out: Charging your tool batteries off of the truck is going to have a really negligible impact on the truck battery. As in you could be running full-draw from the bed 120V outlet for 24 hours and use well under 25% range. Charge to 100% if you need it, but you may be surprised by how little you need.

Maybe the R1 platform’s extreme vampire drain is a feature to help keep the pack from sitting very long at 100% state of charge? ?
As a Vampire, I approve this post!

Im surprised the Rivian "daily" SOC level is 70%. When I got my first Tesla (back in 2014) they said 90% for daily charges. I've done that since then first on that model S then on a newer one. I charged to 100% when I needed a few extra miles of comfort for trips, but otherwise charged to 90% the rest of the time. Most days I went out in the AM so it never sat at 90% after an overnight charge that long so perhaps that helps. I'll probably charge more than the 70% daily at the start until I get more comfortable with its range/consumption vs the Tesla.
