wonder if their highway test uses the actual speed limit on the highway. I know many interstates in IL have a 60mph limit for vehicles over 4 tons.

It's the EPA test cycle. Maximum speed is 60 mph and average is 48.3 for the highway test. Personally I think the tests are stupid and aren't realistic conditions. Supposed to take the average between those two tests and multiply by 0.70 to get the combined EPA rating.

You know you’re pretty inefficient when an average Toyota Prius or Honda Accord hybrid can get better MPG. Can you imagine what kind of home charger you would need to charge that from 0 to 80%? You’d probably need an 80 to 100 amp charger to get an overnight charge otherwise it’s gonna take you 24+ hours to charge that thing on a level 2 40-60 Amp one. Jeez, what a pig ?

Hummers have always been a poster child of inefficiency. It looks like that hasn't changed even in EV form.

And yet... it still gets better MPGE than a Honda Civic (by a lot). Even at 9,000 pounds, 4WD, insane acceleration, and all the rest. EVs rule!

Where are you getting this? EA has 150KW and 350KW chargers. The Hummer charges at 800V on either of those and peaks at 350KW. I have seen a couple of photos of EA sessions, one where they got an average of 230KW from 30% to 67% and another where it was still at 140KW at 90%.

The range rating of the Hummer is also with the standard off road tires, so it is the worst configuration, not the best like Rivian.

I don't understand this comment. With an ICE you are locked in as far as emissions. With an EV you can reduce your emissions better depending on the fuel source. Oner the course of a car lifespan (20 or more years) even an EV with an MPGe of 10 is going to have less emissions than the average ICE cars if you use renewable energy to charge.

It's the upfront emissions of battery manufacturing that usually requires a couple years for a typical ev to have less overall emissions than an ice car. The huge battery pack in the hummer is the source of a lot of emissions.

I agree with the fact that batteries have higher emissions than an ICE engine to produce. But what usually gets left out of all of the analysis is the mining and drilling and construction of fossil fuel plants. The FF industry likes to tout the emissions with solar and wind materials but fail to mention that the solar and wind fuel is emission free while coal, gas, and oil have continuous emissions beyond just the combustion of the fuel.

One of the byproducts of the process is pulling minerals from the brine, lithium is one of those and they think that sometime in the next 10 years that area may be the largest supplier of lithium in the world.
