Waiting 2+ years is tough for me. Getting in and out of a Tesla M3 L/R (great car) is a pain at 78 yoa. Looked at the R2 in Pasadena, liked both it and the R3. Drove a Chevy Equinox EV—non starter. Looking at the BMW ix50 and Audi Q6 (not yet out.) Don’t love with the BMW’s rear styling, but do like the interior, range, and performance. Going to test drive that one soon, maybe get a mildly used one in the $60k range. Any thoughts out there?
I'd get the BMW if I was you. It's a nice car, and I'd have one if it towed.

I have the same issue with getting in and out of our Model 3, plus I can't find a comfortable seat position. That's why I stopped driving it on long trips.
My recommendation to you is to lease a gen 2 R1S for 3 years, then move into the R2. I saw the R2 in Denver and am convinced that is the car that will replace our M3. Timing will be right...we have 95,000 miles on the M3 now.

Awfully big for empty nesters, but a good thought. My wife has a RAV4 Prime, I’d like something more in that size. Towing not an issue for us. Thx for the ideas.

Yep, the Sport. I've compared the dimensions and the R2 is actually lower, but about 12" longer which is fine. It would offer a bit more storage than the Bronco which would be welcome. For 2 people and a dog R2 is a perfect size I think. Does anyone have a good photo of the seats for R2? Everyone seems to point at the dash.
Sure
Rivian R1T R1S I think I messed up.... 1000022020

Thanks for the photo, she'll like those seats better. It is going to be really interesting to see if those scroll wheels are easy to use. The only demo's I've seen are the Rivian test mode ones.

You're likely correct, for our purposes though the vehicle is just too big. It is just us 2 and the pooch. I did show her on the way home the R2 interior is slightly different (visually she thought R1S was busy), and I showed her the R2 is only about 12" longer than the Bronco and actually lower. For her it is a utility vehicle, but when we travel I want something more interesting to drive (I do the driving). So the size of the R2 will be ok, but I've got an uphill battle on the tech front and cost front (here ideal amount to spend is $0 LOL). Showroom visit worked against me, I'd have been better off showing her the Out of Spec deep dive video or something.
But if you car camp, all three of you could sleep in the R1S more comfortably than the R2.

Perhaps just get another (lesser) Bronco.
In this day and age of EVs well on their way to general adoption, buttons, knobs on dash are so Legacy, so passe, so ICE, so absolutely no way, no how on an EV, full stop.

We are in Canada and are really interested in the r2 but I am also suspicious of how long it will be before it’s in Canada. We are also looking at the R1s.
