Ok this just happened. Trying to remember the exact steps. I was looking for a way to lower the alerts volumes so they don't interrupt my phone calls and music and I ended up clicking that the small volume icon at the bottom of the infotainment screen on the right (might only show up if playing music?). Anyway after clicking it the small volume screen popped up. After this I believe I got home and I used the garage door opener button on my steering wheel (right button). Parked. After a few hours I got in the car to go pick up my son and I used the garage door button again...then again to close the garage door. At this point I noticed the volume screen was still open from earlier. I clicked the volume icon to minimize it but nothing happened. I can control the individual volume levels for music, phone, map, and Alexa. I can click the mute icon and it works. That is it though...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE RESPONDS. I can use Alexa to bring up map or anything else but the volume screen remains open and active. It's as if it is a modal screen and it's stuck. I tried pressing both steering wheel buttons for 15 seconds- nothing happens.

Any ideas????

Trying to avoid this...I heard negative things about doing this type of reset.

Infotainment reset is the way to go.

So, I understand soft reset but how do you do an infotainment reset? Not the same thing?

I read there are 3 ways to "reset"...don't remember 100% but I think
1. The easiest is to let your car go into a "sleep mode" by unplugging from charger and letting 30 mins pass
2. Infotainment reset by holding down left and right outermost buttons on steering wheel for 10-15 seconds
3. System reset by holding left outermost button on steering wheel and hazard button for 10-15 seconds

I read on another post that system resets can damage the vehicle

'Soft' reset isn't an official term, nor is a 'Hard' reset. 'Infotainment' and 'Vehicle' resets are the terms used by Rivian. Colloquially, 'soft'='infotainment'.

Thanks,

I assumed people on the forum called it a soft reset meaning software restart as mentioned in the trouble shooting/Help section of the manual. But i didn't see infotainment anywhere, then again, I've only had my R1S a month or so. Thanks for the help.
