Upsetting report about how invasive insurance companies are with regard to driver data. I wonder if Rivian sells data on "acceleration events." GM obviously does.

I checked my VIN on the website-stated Rivian does not share data

Just because you have an “acceleration event” or “braking event” doesn’t mean you’re a bad driver.

As if insurance companies really ever needed reasons to increase rates even more.
Try explaining that to some low level CS rep at your ins. co

Just submitted a request for my data. It's my understanding that in California that insurance companies can't use driving data to determine rates (but I could be wrong). Will be interesting to see what they have on me. Note, you can also request to delete all of your personal data or to not share your data that Lexisnexis has.

Here's the URL to submit the request ... https://consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/request
I received a letter from Lexis Nexis today with a link to download my report. It's quite long with every historical phone number, address, email address, credit inquiry, loan and recent insurance claim (glass chip repair). I can confirm that there is no driving data from Rivian (or Lucid) in my report.

Just got this email today and I figure this extra confirmation from Rivian could help in this discussion.

Insurance is a racket period! We switched to State Farm a year ago after our previous insurer (bundled home and auto) doubled our premium due to the house. State Farm drastically dropped the homeowners portion but the auto was higher than the previous company. All in it was still cheaper so we made the move. They sold us on the "Smart Driver" program as it offered a significant discount and guaranteed it wouldn't allow the policy to go up based on the data (I call BS now). We since had two large increases and when I inquired as to why I got the standard rates have simply increased answer and if I took "Smart Drive" off it would go up considerably more. I'll be looking at new insurance again very soon especially since I can't control my right foot with the power of the quad motor underfoot!! I also have an AMG GT that is on it's own policy with Grundy, I'd hate to see what my insurance would look like if it was being tracked as well!

Those stats aren’t that bad. Especially in an EV it is really easy to accelerate but also the criteria for braking, acceleration, and such will get you occasionally for normal driving. I have State Farms safe driver beacon and get tagged occasionally and still get a discount. I also have to watch speed and have gotten tagged twice at Orlando airport where exit from the terminal drops suddenly to 15 mph while the traffic is going 35. But I still get a discount.
