I was looking on the Rivian Gear shop and noticed something very interesting. The 22" rims now show compatible GEN 1 only...

That is odd (same for 21s apparently) but if it was because the hole pattern was changing then the AT tire sizes wouldn't be compatible with either.

Could just be due to the TPMS sensor changing. The legacy model X and refresh model X have same bolt pattern but different TPMS. When you go to Tesla shop they limit newer wheels to refresh even though bolt pattern is the same.

The 20's list Gen 1 and Gen 2 compatibility. Very Strange. It's not the sensors then...

The Gen2 R1 potentially puts a lot more torque through that 5 lugger, maybe only the 20s are up to the task.

That's good to hear. I purchased 20" Dark wheels for my R1T (it came with 22 brights) that I want to transfer to my eventual Gen2.

If that was the case, why not just offer the new 22's that work on all version...

Yeah, if i was to trade for gen 2 i would probably sell my truck with a set of Dodge wheels and keep the 20s for the new one ?

Could just be because the 22s now come with a new tire, so they might add another 22" Sport listing to the shop that comes with the new tires specifically for Gen 2.

That is a good call out, the 20s are forged, the 22s are not.

There's a new 22" option coming out with the quad motor vehicles, where the rear rim is wider to accommodate the wider tire. Considering they've been testing the Gen2 vehicles with the original sport 22s (see EPA testing photo below), I'm doubtful it's strictly a gen1 vs gen2 thing. IMO this is just the path of least resistance, declaring it incompatible with the whole generation to make sure people don't use it on a vehicle they shouldn't down the line.
