if I were a betting man, my money is on the rivian r1t dual motor making it out before the cybertruck... I have no clue how theyre going to handle that PR nightmare that Rivian just went through. They removed the pricing from the website completely to get people prepped for it but this time last year, the model x long range was $85k vs $105k now. A tri motor "plaid" cyber truck is going to be a 6 figure proposition. Rivian had to break the price increase to some 70kish reservation holders. Imagine the uproar when you break the news to 1million+ res holders. Probably easier to delay indefinitely or scrap the project if they cant meet the price goals they set. $39k for a stainless steel body armored window truck? I will be blown away.
You can toss the $40k, $50k and $70k Cybertruck prices out the window. Tesla will most likely drop the Single and Tri motor due to strong demand. Elon has stated that the Quad Motor will be the first Cybertruck trim to see production. The entry level Dual Motor may not see production until 2024-2025.

I also belong to an active Cybertruck forum with a day two reservation. The consensus is that Tesla will significantly increase pricing from the 2019 reveal announcement. Here are my 2023 Cybertruck MSRP guesstimates;

-Single Motor (delayed)
-Tri Motor (canceled due to Quad Motor)
-Dual Motor $69,900
-Quad Motor $89,900
-Quad Motor Plaid $119,900

I kinda think Rivian is going to take their prospective/future client base down market. The dual motor thing and being able to reduce production costs and leveraging their infrastructure? They could produce a 4 door Tesla fighter and greatly expand their market share. That would not keep them from going upscale later on or converting their cargo vans into RV's (with solar panels on the roof). Just spitballing here.
When they announced the dual motor my first thought was that they could even do a single motor RWD (or FWD) with a standard suspension if they wanted to compete on price while keeping an upscale interior and feature set.

I agree with this pricing, and delivery timeline. That said, I don't think the backlash will be as big a deal as it was for Rivian due in part to the smaller reservation costs. They can also afford to lose 75% of their reservations and still be supply constrained for years. I have a lot of mixed feelings about my CT reservation. It will definitely be the technology leader across the board, in terms of range, efficiency, charging speed, 4WS, driver assistance, infotainment, and possibly durability. It will also be saddled with the increasing number of Tesla gimmicks like no handles, no steering wheel, sparse interior, and massive size. I'm on the fence about the stainless, which I think will end up being a PITA to keep looking nice, even if it won't rust or dent. A true stressed skin design (unlikely) would also make insurance very expensive, something Tesla will likely leverage to get more people to use their "big brother is watching" insurance. I also have real safety concerns about the "armor" glass. My wife was in a bad accident in our MY and as it was, the EMTs struggled to figure out the stupid door handles to extract her. Having this on the door glass adds way more danger than utility.

I would have paid 104k. Yes, there is demand.
Yup... You want the worlds fastest super truck?

I know I do.

107k for a TRX... Nope.

100k for the not worlds fastest F-150 (which also tows less)

105k for the not worlds fastest RST Silverado (but is a close second)

I posted a comparison of the new pricing vs the Lightning and it answers the same question (The New Reality) - yes there will be demand for a luxurious 600hp truck for $70k. We forget that the quad motor R1T is more bad ass than any truck on the market, and is total overkill. It's akin to the Ram TRX or the Ford Raptor, while being faster than both.

When Rivian can deliver on the R2 platform, that will be the key to their expansion, just as the Model 3 was for Tesla.

Rivian only really needs to worry about this if they get to the point that their supply can exceed demand. And right now, it's completely lopsided in the other direction.

When they ramp up production and have excess supply, that's when demand will become a factor. They are soooo far away from that right now, so don't get too hung up on price/demand issues.

The R1T and R1S are the first offerings from the Rivian vehicle portfolio. The rumor is a lower priced Wrangler/Bronco fighter is the next Rivian coming down the pike.

Being an outdoor adventure vehicle brand you know they are working on a Quad Motor off-road oriented van with amazing camping features.
I'm betting the adventure van is the next product from Rivian. Aside from the Max Pack to ensure the van has 300+ miles of range, they have all the other pieces with the current EDV and R1 platforms. It's essentially melding the van with the R1 suspension and off-road package and larger battery.

Beyond that, who can say. I think a Bronco/Wrangler competitor would do quite well, as well as a larger truck.

I understand that people want an adventure van and I get that there is a market for it, but I cannot imagine that an adventure van is a priority for Rivian right now. Adventure vans are far more niche vehicles than the R1 models and demand for the EDVs from Amazon and other businesses for commercial purposes means that Rivian is unlikely to divert any of that production toward a low volume consumer product. I could see Rivian having a concept showing the possibilities but I would imagine that production would not be a priority. If anything, the aftermarket could step in for EDV conversion.

The next consumer products from Rivian have to be lower priced, more accessible models if the company is going to survive. The company needs volume and they will build that with more mainstream models.
