Was driving near the Rivian engineering center in Plymouth mi (where they are rumored to have the R2) and saw this driving. Is this an R2? Looked like a small R1T, but hard to tell, it drive past quickly

Looks like a regular R1T to me. They are not likely to have any R2 out and about with minimal camo like that.

Probably just an R1T body testing out other stuff underneath.

There is no indication there will be an R2 pickup, only the SUV. Almost certainly an R1T body testing something else.

its an R2 but likely a refreshed one they are testing or possibly testing parts of the R2 using an R1 body. there's another post that shows a pic of both an R1T and R1S with this wrap and there were a few minor noticeble differences from existing R1T and R1S.

Again... Look for known clues in the image. Wheels that we know are 20". That's your ruler for scale. The license plate, which is a standardized size (6" x 12") is another obvious clue. Even in perspective and in 2D medium, the dimensions and scale of these things, relative to rest of captured image, do not change.

No. Not a R2. And what else do we know, or should already know? Parts sharing means economy of scale and cost efficiency*. If it's an in-house part, the more units they make the lower the per unit cost will be. And any parts that are sourced, there are savings in volume pricing from suppliers. So anything you see being tested on a R1, have been tested on a R1 or is already in use in any production R1 could be found on the R2. Scalability and vertical integration are the keys to profitability.

And Rivian never said "Peregrine" to be R1 or R2 only. It's probably both and may very well including things beyond reduction in number of CPUs; like 800V, better charging curves and NACS charging port.

*The R1 is said to share 70% of parts with the Amazon vans. It is what Rivian/RJ said at the launch event for the vans.

On their earnings call, they announced there would only be one model with a few variations.
Given that we've clearly seen a CUV profile, no R2Ts will be made.
As others have said, they may be testing R2 bits in this camouflaged R1T shell.

We know R1S orders outpace R1T orders. And while Ford Maverick is a good seller for Ford, its numbers are not as high as Ford's CUVs. There is most likely not good enough of a business case for Rivian to justify the expense of producing a R2T... even if you really really want one. It's just business. Now if the R2S become such a run-away success, and Rivian become so profitable that it can accept the lower profit margins of a smaller volume R2T, i.e. see a business case that make sense, then it would be plausible.

This is an R1T with the reconfigured ADAS cameras and likely also has the battery and powertrain refinements expected to come with Peregrine.

This is probably the same testing vehicle that has been previously sighted.
