almost every OEM has weak tie rods. Raptors snop them, Wranglers snap them, TRX's snap them. We recently saw a Cybertruck snap one. If you're off roading and you push your vehicle too far, it's going to break.

Anyone know a doctor who would replace my hip with one of those?

My problem really isn't the weak tie-rod... it's the $1,300 repair fee.

Weak link in a system should be engineered to be a cheap easy fix, getting the parts below the current $500+ and making them more available will help this and engineering out the need to do an alignment

I'd be ok, with OEM strength if they were $150 and I could do myself in the field, without an alignment

Do you think it would be possible to order the tie rods as spare parts and field replace them? If so, what tools would be needed to get you off the trail? Obviously it would need to go to the shop after for at least an alignment, but if you're really off grid the tow rescue might be rough.

That's something to ask your local SC, since there is no other avenue to get parts as a owner at this time.

Rivian's current scale of economy is the problem. That and lack of info provided to customers (which encroaches on right-to-repair issue). For all we know, it could be an off-the-self item from another company.

Early on an R1S broke a tie rod on Fins 'N Things and Rivian fixed it for free. Not sure if that's still happening. I never broke a tie rod on any of my Toyotas but did weld an idler arm back together and straight axle J arms had a tendency to break so people went to Hi-Steer arms.
