On my first long road trip and the EA station north of Waco is completely useless. All 350KW chargers are not turned on.

Two 150KW stations are also down. All other 6 chargers (150K) give charging errors ... Have been on the phone with EA for over an hour plugging unplugging installing apps adding credit cards authorizing remote charges, etc.

Bolt and i3 are changing no problem, and I have used two other CCS chargers (charge point / Austin Energy).

Frustrating. Still on hold with EA and then will give Rivian a call (although I don't think it is a Rivian issue).

Will have to limp to nearest charge point and cross my fingers. The road home will be even more difficult.

What’s the error your getting, are you sure it’s the stations if other cars are charging ok?

I have had similar issues with my R1T on 3 occasions. Truck just says ā€˜unplug and try again’ but can be fixed with a hard reset.

Why do you say not a Rivian issue if it works for Bolts and i3’s?

Okay, an update. I was on the phone with EA and what I learned is that they use three different manufacturers and this manufacturer does not work with Rivian. They have created a case with the manufacturer to fix this ... story continues.

The first customer service rep was not really wanting to escalate because "Rivians are known to work and other cars don't have a problem.". After I explained I am willing to stay and troubleshoot and help get logs to find a root cause they escalated.

At some point I started getting the attention of the homeless crowd and had to lock myself in the car for a bit before I could unplug and try different things.

After EA root caused the issue to the manufacturer they didn't have any other EA stations within reach, and the two closest where also of the same manufacturer. That's when the supervisor said that all/most in Texas are from this manufacturer and they would keep me up to date of when they are fixed.

I hope they are fixed in the next few days because I will be with family in town after flying in from Japan.

I am seriously considering heading back home to get the model Y plus rent a trailer (which we need with all the goodies they are bringing back).

Looking at plugshare and charge point, there are no fast chargers within reach.

There are two 6kw chargers north of me, in Hillsboro.

Just a few miles away there was a Marriott with two 10kw Tesla destination chargers (and I have an adapter). The first did not work (no power to the charger), the second is working at 9kw.

~6 hrs to get back to 85%.

Gonna give Rivian a call so they know EA "in Texas" doesn't work, maybe they can apply some pressure.

Then I am going to start looking at how to make the rest of the journey (or not), I've got plenty of time :)

I don't know the manufacturer, but I will find out. Also it looks like the 350kw chargers work but they are out of order today. The two closest north of Waco are also the problematic 150kw chargers (per EA).

I did call Rivian and they are currently investigating.

This seems to be a common theme with EA. Two different suppliers of their chargers. The one supplier in particular has had a lot of issues. As a result if you live in an area with the troubled supplier, you are much more likely to run into issues. On the flip side, if you live in an area with the good chargers (Colorado for example) you almost never run into issues.

CCS chargers are like Android (needs to work with every OEM) versus Tesla is like Apple (one OEM and one charger). This is my biggest fear with Tesla potentially opening up their network in the US. My guess is they haven't done any testing with other OEMs and as a result any non-Tesla vehicle could have a lot of issues using their chargers. And as many of us know, good luck getting someone from Tesla on the phone to help out.

So the Rivian guides/support has been great. I am back at the chargers since Rivian said to put the car to sleep for 5 minutes, but waiting for a spot to open up.

Here are the problem chargers.

Can you post your error, what is happening? I just don’t follow how this is the first time we are hearing that EA in Texas doesn’t work, lots of owners in Texas.

I have used EA chargers all over the West, multiple types and only occasional issues of slow charging.

Only issue I have had is the ā€œunplug and try againā€ message from the truck that required a hard reset, not EA specific, seen that at both EA and chargepoint stations. I had a thread about it here. It’s a bug in the truck, not sure how widespread it is but it has happened to me multiple times when I run the battery low after a long drive.

Thanks for sharing. EA is wrong. Plenty of people have charged the R1T on ABB, for example all of kyle's road trip during his review. I'm curious if resetting works and what Rivian says.

Aren’t the ABB ones that have always had issues with Rivian and the Signet are the trouble free ones?

Well, the ones in Junction, San Antonio, Sweetwater, and Amarillo all worked for me a few weeks ago. You may need to call Rivian and see if they can save your logs and then do a full reset.
