Jebinc’s tonneau cover winterizing mod

Well, the winter season has arrived here in Seattle and my working tonneau cover is now closed for the season. Given road salt, gravel and fir needle concerns, re the tonneau channels, I decided to seal them up for winter to prevent grime getting in there and later causing a failure.

So, I picked up some inexpensive rubber U channel trim from Amazon and happily plugged the gaps!

Eh, I think it's better NOT to do this. We're all early in our warranty. If winter causes issues, let's find out NOW so it can be addressed.

Rivian has already gone public with a letter that its tonneau covers are defective and will be replaced. I’m already in line for when that day may come in 2023…. Until then, I want my cover to work when I want to use it. Zero impact on when my replacement will be installed. I already have a work order registered with Rivian.

It should be noted there will be some youtube idiot that tries to open it while frozen just to cry and get clicks. Please people if its got snow sitting on it or its below freezing don't push the button. If I have to use mine this winter I will open it and leave it open till I get it back into the garage and warmed up.

I'll probably still open and close mine without video taping it :-o. Manual doesn't say not to, and if it's stuck because it's iced over, it should fault the motor out from overcurrent.

Yeah, best case it just pops a fuse... oh snap... Rivian doesn't publish a fuse block circuit/fuse diagram ("protected IP") so you'll just have to try all 50+ till you find the blown fuse

It's beyond stupid at this point to claim "IP" on which fuse protects which circuit.. even from owners?
One owner blew a fuse and was told "bring it in for service, we'll replace the fuse"... I shit you not!

One reason it's hard to take their "stay adventurous" marketing seriously.

Sometimes when you're away from things, you can't just "bring it in", you need to fix it yourself.

I've been driving since 1979 and never had a car with no fuse block diagram. It's like the fuse block was an afterthought?

Even worse... if you look at the photo I posted; they use 3 different physical size fuses.. so you can't just get a kit with assorted values, you have to get 3 different sizes too.

I'd love to see Munroe and Assoc. dig into that one.. if they called the seat design stupid and dumb, I could imagine what they'd have to say about the fuse block.
