Great video - honest feedback from someone who uses their truck like a truck.

The guy is even a little bit of a comedian. At the end of the video he says that the price of Rivian's will go down in the future. I had to laugh at that comment.

TL;DW: He clearly likes it. Has a few minor quibbles. And his tonneau cover broke.
I was surprised to hear that the tonneau cover broke? ???

I'd believe it. Mine jammed when I closed it over a bed full of firewood. I'd put a tarp down and was very careful to make sure the firewood was below the track, but the slight pressure of pushing the bunched up tarp aside seemed to be enough to knock the tracks off angle and jam it.

Rivian replaced it in a couple hours and I'm hopeful for a redesign. In the meantime, my takeway is to ensure it never operates with any load/pressure from any angle - top, bottom, or leading edge.
I love the idea of the power tonneau, but it's longevity scares me. One dent, screwed. Close it on something accidentally, screwed.

Great video Adam, really appreciate the info as I'm certainly one who will use my truck as a truck. However, it's also going to be my daily driver and I don't have a backup sitting around incase something happens - that's the part that's got me really nervous about the R1T. And I'm 3+ hours from any SC. Look forward to more videos from ya, maybe after your first Rivian SC/Issue fixing event??

I'm in the July-Sept 22 window so got some time yet. Sure wish Rivian would announce they're aware of some of these common issues (like the tonneau cover) and acknowledge they're fixing them at the factory before they leave.

Not my video, but thanks anyway ;)

I too intend to use it like a truck whenever my Max pack is delivered to Canada. We have several Forestry Service Roads by our house with a network of both off road and mountain bike trails. The T will frequent this and many other areas and I don't want to have to worry about babying it (but likely will to some extent). My hope is to treat it like a Tacoma off road, while also hauling dirt, plants and other household things on weekends, and commute during the week.

That said, a service center would be likely a ferry ride ride away so not too remote, but still inconvenient. While certain aspects of an electric vehicle are simpler than an ICE vehicle, all the additional bells and whistles like active damping and air suspension to me are a bit of a ticking time bomb, just waiting for a breakdown that won't allow for a quick roadside fix to get back to base/mechanic.

If/when the power tonneau cover breaks after the warranty ends, I will be surgically removing the tonneau cover.

Great video from a great channel.

The entire video made me cringe however. Dumping loose dirt into the bed? Driving around in ankle deep mud?

Yeah...I'm decidedly not planning to use my R1T as that kind of truck. Way too OCD for that. Somebody get this dood some wet wipes, stat!

Well time to start a Youtube channel AdamRigEverything!
Doubt too many people would have been interested in coming along for my month long Xterra transmission fiasco or how many bikes my wife and I can cram into a downtown apartment. The answer at one point was 6, but since downsized to 5.
Baby steps. ?

I have never seen that efficiency graph and can't figure out how to switch to that. I only see a map on the left side of my heads up display.

You hold in the left button or something like that. It’s probably in the manual somewhere but I remember someone else asking here.

Long press the left or right section of the left thumb button to cycle between map/tire pressure/efficiency graph.

I think this is the best Rivian video I’ve seen. I have a pickup which I use like Jerry (except no towing). And I have a sub-$200 rollup vinyl tonneau cover on it. It still works just as well as new after 3 years of being stretched over awkward loads, forced over my tailgate bike pad, and sitting in sun, rain, and occasional snow 24x7. I think I can unlatch it and roll it up faster than the Rivian power unit can retract, and with my 5’ bed length, the rolled up tonneau blocks neither full bed access nor rear vision. Not criticizing Rivian’s design, and in fact I find it appealing, but for many pickup uses hard tonneaus seem impractical. And before you say “security”, I don’t think there‘s a big real world difference.
