Can anyone say with confidence that a jump box will work for a completely dead 12volt battery. I've had the dead battery issue with another EV and Rivian just replaced my 12volt so I'm hoping I'm good for a bit but as a precaution I've been looking at the NOCO Boost X GBX45 and similar items. I've seen the videos with the hookup at the tow hitch but there seems to be some confusion if a jump box will really get you back on the road.

Thanks

Forum search past threads on the subject to get more info. Like this:

Small jump packs like these are meant for ICEs. They focus on peak cold cranking power—high, short, burst of energy. If used with jump leads by the hitch, they do not supply enough steady power to boot up the various computers in the R1. If direct access to 12V battery is available, and that it isn’t too far gone, the NOCO might be able to revive it enough to unlock doors and open charge port.

Owner Guide and Tow Operator Guide has instructions on how to access 12V manually if vehicle becomes unresponsive. They also contain info on what type of jump packs are more effective. These are the kinds listed at https://rivianservicetools.com/. Doesn’t have to be those exact ones, but you can use their spec to know what to look for. These tend to have lead acid batteries, so they need to remain charged or they will go flat and become useless.

Rivian guides: https://rivian.com/support/support-documents

These guides state:
"If you're using a portable jump starter, it must maintain a steady voltage between 13 to 16 V at 30 A."

What is "completely dead?" Most people don't really understand battery states. If you mean it has zero volts (or let's say 1-2v) then no, nearly all jump packs need to see some voltage, unless you mod them. If you mean a battery that has gone low enough to shut down the truck, which seems to be around 10.something volts, then probably yes. I'd say highly likely. Nobody can confirm it will work 100% since it's not 100% on ANY vehicle at all.

I have a jump pack with a minor mod to make it output power with a truly fully dead battery.
