WE have had our R1S now for 30 days. It's a great vehicle and we are loving it. Just yesterday we did our first "longish" distance trip. We did notice that the motor noise is quite pronounced, particularly at highway speeds. When in regen the motors sound like they are "grinding". It is not bad at all, just noticeable. Also at highway speeds there is a good deal of wind noise. Again, not really bad, but noticeable. Is any of this within normal parameters? Our previous vehicle was a Jaguar I-Pace BEV, so perhaps I am just not used to driving a beast like the R1S.

"pronounced" noise is not normal. My S at highway speeds has no more noticeable wind or operating noise than other vehicles I drive. It is certainly quieter in terms of road noise than our 911 and no more wind noise than our former GLS.

The noise from the R1S is different and may take time to get used to but it should not be louder than other similar vehicles. Have you used a decibel measuring app? When I did my S was lower than my F-150h and GLK.

Everything you are describing sounds pretty normal compared to our experience. Not sure about the “grinding” noise with regen, but regen does make a sound for us, but I would not describe it as “grinding”.

I do get wind noises at highway speed; with the cross-bars on the roof, I thought it is pretty normal. In addition, it is a boxy SUV and the wind noise is somewhat expected. I'm just wondering if Rivian will come up with noise-cancelation inside the car in the future.

I do hear the motor sounds sometimes but normally it is pretty quiet; it is not enough to bother me. Hope yours is not that bad.

I am taking my R1S into the SC in two weeks to address some fit and finish issues and wind noise I'm sure is related to those issues. I put masking tape over some of these problem areas and the wind noise did drop. I will give an update when I get the car back.

Some people have had issues in early trucks with wind noise so it could be something like that again. It is hard to tell when you can’t hear it yourself to compare. I guess like someone else has suggested use a DB meter.

Since these are early production vehicles I suspect a fair amount of difference from one vehicle to the next, still could be in the realm of "normal".

Got my r1s for exactly a month as well, wind noise is definitely more than my Tahoe, but same as my tesla model 3. Definitely no grinding noise with regen though.
