Rivian says my key fob is dead and I need a new one. They also stated they are out of stock, and I couldn’t get an answer about the warranty on these. Does anyone know? Mine is 1.5 years old, came with the Gen 1 R1.

Did you try replacing the key fob battery?

Yes, with a new battery. I did test the brand new battery with a multi-meter and the reading was 2.5 volts. It should be 3+ volts at a minimum. The Rivian tech tested with another new battery. There is actually a problem with the key fob. I also finally did get confirmation from Rivian that it’s covered under warranty

My key fob is also defective. I have had to replace the battery every 2 months since I picked up my Gen1 R1T in March 2024. I have asked for a replacement several times, and every time they just replace the battery. It's driving me bonkers because I don't carry my phone all the time; I prefer using a fob.

Glad to know I'm not the only one, but the customer support sucks for little things like this.

I feel your pain and the service center told me they are out of stock and couldn’t give me a good answer on ETA.

Odd, sounds like your fob never got an update. Mine used to eat batteries but one of the earlier OTAs had a fob update included that addressed that issue, been fine since that was applied. You might want ask if they can check the software level and maybe make sure it is on the latest fob software. I’m not sure how we can check the fob software level.

Edit:

This was the key fob update

Software Update 2023.02.03
Improved EPA – Estimated Range Numbers
Thanks to various incremental improvements over previous software updates, this update includes an updated EPA-estimated range. The update also increases the depth of discharge, which increases the usable battery energy. You see higher available miles at the top of the charge.

Key Fob Software Update
The new key fob firmware improves connection reliability and latency for faster locking and unlocking. It also improves battery life performance compared to very early versions of the firmware. If your key fob has an update available, your vehicle will notify you on the center display. You can also go to Settings > Vehicle > Updates.

I would think not if our vehicles were bought in early 2024, unless subsequent updates continue to include previous firmware updates. Not sure if it’s like Microsoft where you must do each update in sequence. (I hope it’s not like Microsoft, actually! 😂)

This is great info! It's in for service now, 3rd time for water intrusion from the AC box. So I'll text them about it tomorrow.
