I really feel like this is the time Rivian, Lucid, Tesla and other EV makers need to go after the states and show the reality of “how dealers look out for the Consumer” and how the direct model protects the consumers, against the market adjustments.

I doubt Rivian, Lucid or Tesla would be against what traditional dealers are doing, since it drives more people to their sales. And right now, neither of those three can keep up with demand.

Some dealers raise the price of high demand/low supply models, Tesla randomly increases prices overnight. I don’t see much difference ?‍. Model 3 SR has gone up several thousand dollars in 12 months.

Dealers are responding more to supply and demand for the vehicles while Tesla price adjustments likely take that into account but focus mainly on cost projections so they can maintain margins. It’s similar but pretty different.

To understand the dealer model you have to understand that traditionally MSRPs are like “high” prices. That is to say they are a starting point for negotiations so dealers have room to “shape” their margins individually depending on how clueless a customer is.

With very little inventory dealers can sell at MSRP easily so it’s obviously necessary to increase prices to allow them to “shape” the maximum margin out of each customer. In many cases dealers have seen how easily certain vehicles sell above MSRP and know that in order to force someone to negotiate against themselves they need to go even higher which is why you see these ludicrous prices. They aren’t having to bend over backwards to make sales so why would they be selling for less?

It’s a totally different model compared to what Tesla the supplier is taking into account. They can’t really afford to raise the MSRP too much as it affects their competitiveness when people are shopping and has an immediate effect on demand since they do not have a dealer model for selling (aka negotiating price).

Dealers really aren’t the problem here generally speaking. The economy is hot and inventory is limited. If consumers want prices to go down they need to stop buying at these inflated prices.

Several thousand more for the same car over a twelve month period indicates Elon can jack up the price whenever and however he feels like it. As long as folks keeping getting in line for M3 and MY of course ?

I'm not quite ready to buy, but all the Kia dealers I've talked to in Colorado are doing MSRP, at least on the loaded GT-Line AWD that I've been looking at.

I bought a 1st edition yesterday, sitting on the lot in Beaverton OR. I had to pay $3500 over MSRP, I might have been able to get a little better if I would have opted for non FE GT line model. Very fun to drive. Now what to do with my April/May R1T LE order ?

I got mine at Beaverton Kia. With a non-FE you might be able to get a little better than I did if you negotiate. Also suggest Thomas at Weston Kia, he was solid.

Thanks! He really did! I was impressed what he was able to do with the paint correction, there were scratches all over the black trim before, but now they’re all gone! I feel so much better knowing that it’s better protected against the elements. Ended up costing $975, but I think it’s well worth the price

Curious about what it cost you? I have been washing my EV6 pretty much every time I go out with it. Already seeing some minor paint blemishes most likely due to road spray driving up on Mt Hood. Edit: NVM I see you posted your cost as I was typing.

I did upgrade the tires to Michelin CrossClimate2 and this thing kills it on snowy roads.

It was $975, and they did paint correction, prep the surface, did the wheels, and the glass, and it’s a five year warranty.
