Don't forget to add the $10-15k ADM ... they were doing the same or more for the Telluride when they came out. There still may be ADMs on them as they are still pretty popular.
One local Kia dealer I visited last summer after the EV6 was out on top of a $10K ADM had a mandatory "$4,995 free oil changes for five years package" attached to the sticker. I'm sure that was quite useful for the buyer of that vehicle, which was definitely NOT me!

One thing I like about the EV6 is it has a lot of real buttons - I don't think I am ever going to get really used to the Rivian's user interface.

Buy American.
Why?

Most "American" cars aren't even built in America. A good amount are final assemblies of overseas sourced parts. A lot of 'foreign' companies actually operate plants here to manufacture their vehicles (Last I checked--granted this was 15 years ago--Subaru manufactured more of their cars in the US than Ford or Chevrolet). I did a report on this when I was in college; I won't date myself, and so I duly acknowledge my data is at least potentially 2 decades out of relevance, but my Mitsubishi was more American than my girlfriend's Monte Carlo (Canadian), or my friend's F150 (Mexican). It was manufactured through DSM (Diamond Star Motors) here in the US.

THOUGH, you could argue it's still 'American' if you consider the *North* American continent your home turf...?

And before citing the "this is where the money goes," take a few minutes to review how much corporations actually pay taxes in the US. I'll wait for your report.

Don't get me wrong. I love my Rivian. But if Rivian were an Italian company, a Japanese Company, or most other foreign product...I'd still buy it. I think the real thing you should ask yourself is: People buy Toyota because they're known for quality. People would stop if a Toyota came with the out-of-the-box problems people are having with their Rivians [we can back and forth on the fact that we're early adopters and these vehicles are getting better. Toyota might've had a similar history when they first started out...I won't dispute that; but my point stands]. So again, what makes it 'better' that it's made in the US?

I'm looking at trying out the EV9 and the Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV 2024 - doesn't hurt to try these vehicles out. I've driven the IONIQ 5 and 6 and they are really well done. Given timing - we may end up not being able to wait for a R1S. Fingers crossed the deliveries keep increasing.

Out of the top 100 cars sold in America.. The first 5 are Tesla..

Then you dont get to the next American name brand until you hit #21.... That one being a Dodge Durango, a Italian owned company.

I think it's great to get more EV choices out there for people and this looks like a well thought out SUV. But as @TollKeeper said, the power numbers on the RWD option are surprisingly low for a 7 person SUV. 215Hp??? I had a Subaru Baja Turbo with only 5 less Hp and with just me in it, it was about right. When I had a full car of adults (meaning 4), it was a complete dog, turbo and all. I can't see how a 7 seat SUV will cut it with that power & torque. Not saying it needs 600HP or anything like that, but more than what it has.
Even worse, the long range version is down to 201Hp!
I expect that the reviews you will see are for up-spec'd versions of it - mainly the GT version at nearly 600Hp or at least the dual motor version with 379Hp, which has an MSRP or $68K according to C&D. Which puts it not that far from the Adventure R1S after tax rebates at ~$76K. I think Kia will not want the RWD version reviewed by "car people".
As I see it, the EV9 and the R1S are on the same line of the features vs $$$ graph, the Rivian slightly higher. Which is perfect, it doesn't undercut the Rivian's value but give consumers choices between paying more for a premium vehicle or saving a little and not getting all the bells and whistles.

Honestly I am a Kia fan, I owned an EV6 briefly before I got my R1T. Let's be realistic what to expect here. As a case study look at the launch of the EV6, they start in the low 40s but they were not possible to find in fact most sold were the AWD GT Line and then you are looking at about $60k.

Back to the EV9 I suspect most people buying an EV9 are going to be in the $70k price range as compared to a comparably equipped R1S (bigger and more capable) for about $10k more. I know where I would spend my money.

The advantage here is going to be charging, probably looking at 40% lower charging times due to smaller battery and better curve. So it will definitely have a market. Also being able to go on a lot, drive a car, pick a color and drive home (after probably getting swindled) appeals to some people for some reason.

I fully realize that many American cars are partially made elsewhere, and that many foreign cars are assembled in the United States. I still like the idea of the Rivian being an American brand made in America.

I love my R1, but I also like money.

I think the EV9 is kinda ugly, but that's a pretty wide price gap. Particularly if they can eventually get it to qualify for the tax credits.

Final details would determine where I would land between the two. I imagine the market will evolve a lot before I'm in the market for another vehicle purchase.

I view more competition as good, and this looks like a compelling option.

I respect your opinion. I don't do reports outside of work mate. And I'm overdue on a lot of work reports because I spend so much bloody time on this site, lol. I just like buying American. As long as the headquarters are here-I will lean American. It's just me and I don't make excuses for what I like.

Ah, understood.
I re-read my statement and it may have seemed like I was making some kind of argument. I did, but didn't mean to (just thought I was covering some fallacies I've seen repeated elsewhere). I was *genuinely* curious as to why that statement.

Some people are just into blind nationalism, which can be misplaced, and that's one aspect I try to 'understand' if there's more to it than "Freedom."

If it's just because you feel better about it, that's cool. I guess my thought process was "well, just because it says it's made in the US of A doesn't instantly mean better."

I appreciate your response.

I appreciate the constructive conversation. Rare in these days. You have good points. Mine is actually a bit emotional. I was banished to these shores by my parents for what I consider minor infringements. My plan was to bid my time here and return home after my schooling but I fell utterly in love with this land and it's strange inhabitants-one in particular. And in return this country gave me so much life and love. I try to do my part by doing things that I think are right. I buy American whenever I can. It saddens me to see this wonderful country torn apart. We forgot kindness and empathy because we hate each other for the most trivial of things. But, I have faith that America will be ok.

Once upon a time I wore a uniform and swore an oath to the Constitution of these United States.

I agree with your sentiments. At the end of the day, though, for me, it's about the people. I don't think of the 'country' as Trump or Biden or Blue or Red or our politicians or conglomerates, or big tech, or innovation. In fact, it's the polar opposite of them, and sadly I don't even think THEY see it.
It's the people, for sure.

The price is attractive, yes.

Too bad the car isn't.
Its a hell of a lot better looking than the Hyundai Ioniq 6.. The CT and the 6 are battling it out for the ugliest vehicle on the market (or soon to be on the market)
