Interesting that it's laminated safety glass and not tempered. It's a pretty big glass lite.
Wondering if they were Tesla-ing the R1T

Incidentally, some Ford owners are reportedly unsatisfied with their f-250 roofs

Here in New Mexico for monsoon season, you have a non-zero chance of hail multiple times a week, for....like 4-6 months. It can be not a cloud in the sky at 9am, and glass shattering hail at 1pm. Start a drive to a nearby town in perfectly clear skies, small chance of thunderstorms later that evening then the storm move in quicker than forecasted and hail nailing you on the drive.
In Colorado I'm truly wondering if next hail season I'll put the cargo crossbars up top and securely tie down a sheet of plywood when I may have to travel for a long time or park outside :p

Has anyone tried to take this through an automatic car wash? I don't know how much pressure one of those might put on it but if someone resting a hand on the edge cracked it, a car wash would be a really terrible place to find out it can't handle it.

Safety glass blocks UV and won't break into a million pieces and fall into the cabin. Tempered glass is good and strong but still shatters.

Glass aside, still do not understand how anyone would allow some rando to drive their Rivian, let alone borrow it for a day, or, gasp, sit on your . . . . roof.

Gasp, ass on glass.
It depends on who it is and if one is inclined to look up.

Hopefully she didn't get any splinters, aka glass ass.

Welp....add me to the list of cracked roof glass club. No impacts, leaning, or influencers posing on it. Parked in the garage overnight and today there's a large circular crack on the inside layer of the glass. It's visible from inside the truck but not easily visible from the outside (hard to see in direct sunlight).

Probably not a recall, but similar to the tonneau I see a replacement campaign coming. Hopefully it's on the supplier and not a design issue with the way the glass is fastened or dampened and they can hold the supplier accountable for parts not meeting spec.

If you polled 100 Rivian owners "would you prefer a glass roof or a metal roof in a rollover accident" exactly 100 owners would reply metal roof.

Glass roofs on vehicles are dumb. They are even dumber on trucks. Their only purpose is to get ooohs and aaaahs from impractical people, but outside of this they are a negative in every other conceivable aspect.
I would actually pay extra for a standard everyday metal roof with insulation. Living in the tropics, I'm still wondering how I'm going to keep the heat out of the cab and off my head.

Hopefully something good can come out of this and the people at Rivian will consider a metal roof option. Surely this is too late for me as I'm hoping to take delivery within the coming months. But others can benefit or at the very least have an option.
It's for the WOW factor, nothing more.

This thread and the lack of reliable roadtrip charging just tilted me into the, I'll wait for a while before buying camp.

What bothers me more is that I put in s service request on July 29th and still don't have an appointment for it to be replaced. I've called service twice since then and even emailed my guide. No resolution in sight. I'm seriously thinking of going back to a Ram until they can get their ducks in a row.

I'm surprised that with this many replies, no one has yet mentioned this as an obvious solution.

Installing these around the perimeter of the roof from the factory should significantly reduce the likelihood of influencers sitting on the glass.

Pictures of the roof from outside and inside. No visible cracks on the outside under direct light from the camera but on the inside it's clearly visible.
