After 65 days (honestly not that long, we've enjoyed every bit of the 1900 miles we've put on it) since pickup, I'm finally sending in my S back to the SC for a number of minor issues present at pickup or that shortly manifested afterward. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/took-delivery-at-costa-mesa-sc-r1s-149.17688/#post-374521

Been scanning through the forums and Reddit for mentions of Costa Mesa. It seems like overall, service has improved from a few of the horror stories that were posted a few months back? I'm assuming some of the issues they'll chalk up to acceptable levels of manufacturing defects, some I should just let go, but a few I should push on such as the substantial tailgate gap, paint chip on front fascia, dent on rear quarter panel, door handle misalignment, and mobile app stuck on close windows.

Wondering which ones might bring on additional woes. Hopefully, the front fascia paint chip won't affect the surrounding panels, unsure how much they'll remove to blend. And for the small dent on the rear quarter, hope they can get to it by removing the wheel well panels from underneath?

@Tim-in-CA, I think I saw you mention on Reddit or a forum thread that you had a service appointment out of there in late September and you have to go back after the delivery rush? Wondering what others recent experiences have been like out of that SC.

They had been pestering me to get my T in for an inspection that was missed on a previous appointment. I put it off as long as possible, but now I am getting ready for a long road trip so I decided to get it in. I scheduled the appointment for last Friday. I showed up on time and had an adviser within a few minutes. Only to find out they had no idea about the inspection, but they did have a missing center cap on the right front 21" wheel (I have 20s!) and a missing aero piece (on my S, not T!). So, I was on my way home within 10 minutes.

Not too thrilled to drive there just to be turned around. I guess the inspection must not have been that important. Why they kept pestering me about it, I do not know. Next time, they can come to me.

Other than that, I have had a pretty good experience with Costa Mesa. They are just a little slow to get things done. I had a suspension adjustment that took nearly three weeks.

Yes, I had an appointment to address about a dozen mostly small issues. It took about 2.5 months to get that appointment, but the vehicle was finished in 8 days. Much quicker than I expected. When I picked up the vehicle , I found that where they aligned the frunk hood to be flush on one side, they misaligned the other. They apologized and offered to get me back in quickly without having to wait months. Originally they offered me to come back that weekend, but changed their mind as that was the last weekend of the quarter and they lot was FULL of units for delivery. I told them that I could bring it back the following week, I dropped off the vehicle this past Tuesday and was told that it would be ready within a week. I found two other items that they added to the list:
  • Hatch was not opening and was reporting obstruction -- striker adjustment per tech
  • An occasional squeak could be heard inside the cabin -- the tech identified it as door panels and all will be lubricated as well as the common top dash rattle near the metal vent.
Overall, much better experience than I had with Tesla (right down the street -- my Model S was damaged each time I brought it to that location). Rivian will offer you an Enterprise loaner, the location near the airport has a pretty good selection of vehicles. My first appointment I had an EQE sedan, this time I took a GLE SUV as I didn't want the only EV they had -- Model S and I didn't want a Yukon Denali! I'd say you'll be good dropping off the vehicle there, they seemed to have caught up with demand. But with deliveries ongoing, the Eastvale location can't come soon enough!!!

That may be months from now. I'll ask when I pick up my vehicle next week if they know the status of Eastvale opening and report back.

@Tim-in-CA did you have to get any paint issues corrected? Curious as to whether they just ship the whole vehicle off or if they just remove the panel/surrounding panels and ship those off? Wondering which body/paint shop they use in Orange County.

I had no paint issues. Mostly body panel alignment/gap/noise issues which can be addressed at the SC. They did tell me that if there are paint issues or actual body work, that they need to send it out and may take longer to complete. But seeing as I had a loaner, I was OK with the weekish time table. Also, if you aren't happy with your loaner, I'm sure Enterprise will swap it out for you no problem, the staff at the location was pretty friendly as it is an Enterprise Exotic location ... unfortunately I couldn't upgrade to a Mcclaren or Taycan for free .... ☹

@vista1984 ... fyi, when I was at Costa Mesa service center today, I asked about the status of the Eastvale location. They said that it was all ready and were waiting on final approvals (maybe the city???) ... they believe it should be open by December.

Cool thank you for the information! I will wait for sure.

Yesterday I saw posting for hiring delivering staff in that location also.
