Second time my truck had to go in for service because of an oil leak on the passenger side.

First time the plug was missing and replace it. (So they say)

This time they claim it’s fixed because they are using an updated version two of the plug that is holding the oil at bay.

That's no good. Hopefully your engine still turns over when you turn the ignition! If not, try adding some gas. If you can get it to them, I'm sure Meineke will take care of you.

(In all seriousness, what oil is this? Hydraulic fluid from suspension? Brake fluid? Mystery juice?)

As long as it’s not magic smoke. Once you let that out, you’re done.

There is no oil in the Rivian. It has. Forward and rear unit that holds the coolant for the batteries. This is a very thick bluish liquid . The seals have been re-engineered. If you smell heavy chemical smell then it is the coolant leaking. Schedule a service and have them replace it.
Really? What does the hydraulically linked suspension use? Hydraulic…unicorn spit?

Just got a call that they have to lower the subframe in order to get to the front drive unit oil plugs to fill it and replace the plugs with gen II plugs.
The oil in the front drive unit is clear and of a light viscosity.

How the hell do you mess up designing a drain plug.
That’s exactly what I was thinking.

I guess they did a redesign and I have the old plugs with a vin sub 2K.

First time I sent it in for this same problem they said the old plug fell out or something and put the old style plug back In.

I don’t feel like can get a straight answer from them.

I had the same condition but in the rear of my vehicle, got the response it was the oil fill plugs being under sized and they replaced my back one which is an easy fix. I asked about the front they told me can't do it until it fails or shows signs cuz it's not a warranty request yet. But its very much a known issue.

I am sometimes amazed at the how short sighted companies can be. Rather than just replace the plugs and be down with it...they would rather deal with the truck again or even deal with a larger issue, than just proactively replace the plugs...

Thanks very much for the heads up on this.

It never occurred to me that the rear drive unit would be a possible issue.

Apparently, they have to drop the substructure to access the three plugs. One fill and two drain plugs. The drain plugs were not an issue but since they are in there they are going to upgrade all the plugs at once.

I’ll mention to rear plugs just out of curiosity when I get my next call on their progress.

Agreed, it's frustrating plus it made a hell of a mess on my driveway. They weren't very concerned and had scheduled out the appointment a few weeks later, so I had to have an oil drip pan under my truck..

Honestly not something I expected to ever need for an electric truck ?
