I am hoping our community can help answer the question that Rivian wouldn't.

Like most of you, at just over 15k miles my 20" Pirellis are in need of replacement. I would like to avoid buying tires that have such a short lifespan. The lease agreement is unclear if switching tires is allowed. What do you all think? Would I be penalized for returning the truck at the end of the lease with non-pirellis?

I have emailed and messaged Rivian multiple times over the last four weeks and heard nothing back.

I've been leasing for 20+ years and in my experience, lease returns don't care about the brand of tire, just the tread.

Agreed....so long as there is tread on the tires, they typically don't care. If you've rotated the tires and kept them aired properly, theses tend to last longer than 15k miles. I have 19k on mine and they are at least 7/32" average tread depth. I'd look for uneven wear that may indicate an alignment issue.

Luckily, there's lots of tires out there that are cheaper than the Pirelli's that'll fit that size. Since it's a lease, I'm not sure if you'd want to downsize to a 33" diameter size and have the truck reprogrammed for it as that's an added expense.

It is good to hear that they shouldn't care. As for wear, I commute over a mountain highway everyday. It will probably end up closer to 20k when they are beyond safe.

In my experience, factory tires that come on a new car tend to wear out faster than their replacement, even if it’s the same tire.

I’ll be watching this thread. I also leased our R1S and expect the tires will need to be replaced once before we return it. I ended up with the 21’s without doing enough research and now find that there’s only a couple of options for replacements.

My preference would be to swap with someone who has the 20’s but doubt Rivian would let me turn the R1S in with different wheels (even if they’re OEM Rivians).
