I’m wondering if anyone one else has had this issue and whether there’s a quick fix…

I have a gen2 R1T. Last week the driver’s side center console popup door stopped responding to the button being pressed. The passenger side one still operates normally. What’s interesting is that when the door is up (open), when the button is depressed, it releases the locks but doesn’t in the closed position. I performed both a screen reboot and a hard reboot to no avail. I live in Portland Maine and would have to drive all the way to Chelsea mass to the nearest Rivian service center so it’d be great if any clever fellow R1T owner knows how to fix this.
Cheers!

Are you pressing it the same way when it's up? It could be that the harness is loose but I've never seen what the connection looks like. I know those buttons are sometimes finicky about how they need to be pressed to actually activate even though you might still feel a click.

From my end I’ve pressed it all sorts of ways.

To me, this sounds like a problem with the alignment of the left door. The left side is probably putting too much pressure on the latch for the latch to retract. The latch is trying to retract, but the latch motor in it isn't strong enough to overcome the pressure the door is exerting on it.

The first thing I would do is check and make sure it's not just something you have stored in the console putting pressure on the door. So remove everything from the center console and see if that solves the problem.

And if that doesn't solve it, I would try to remove the door and then put it all back together. If it's not possible to disassemble the door, it might need replacement.

Did you try pressing down on the door while pressing the button. The idea is to help the latch release if it’s getting hung up on the door being too tight.

Gen2 R1T here. My driver side pop-up button has always been less-responsive than the passenger side. Tap the passenger side and it opens, 100% of the time. Driver side? Gotta push it a few times. Like you, when the door is open, the buttons both work on first press.

I actually brought it in for this, and Rivian said replaced the entire center console. I could see the new one is a little marred on the edges and shinier (from some kind of wear?) than my old brand new one. And it still behaves the same.

I also have to press down pretty firmly on the doors to get them to latch shut. I had a Gen1 loaner a few weeks back and the doors were flawless.

It's a minor annoyance. I'm not going to bother bringing it back in, it might come back in worse shape.

I had exactly the same issue on my 2023 R1T and the only fix was to replace it. It's pretty involved, the entire center console had to be taken apart. The good news is mobile service was able to do it. I live in NH, so not having to go to Chelsea was a relief.

Mine behaves exactly as described here… haven’t done anything about it but my driver side button is hit-or-miss on opening up.
