Is it possible to set how high the liftgate opens? Mine stops basically just above my head height, making me feel like I need to duck. I have tested the range of motion, and there is a good 4-5" more it could go up, but it stops here every time.

I searched the owners manual and found nothing, tried a long hold on the liftgate button, tried double pressing, nothing.

Is it possible?

Not currently, but maybe/hopefully in the future. Mine goes up pretty high to the point it hits the garage door. I wish I could set it lower. I'm 5' 11" and easily walk underneath it on kneel mode.

I was at the Seattle Showroom/ Spaces a couple of weeks ago and I asked about setting the height of the lift gate. The very helpful Rivian employee said that you can push the button three times and it will remember the height. I did not think to test it there and I do not have an R1S yet to test it on. Can anyone confirm if this works? I have a pretty low garage door and I want to make sure I can set the height.

This is really weird that the car is missing such a basic function considering that it's a tall vehicle

Hello, I’m circling back on this thread to see if any more information is available on setting the lift gate height.

I have a low point of entry at my garage and have often times had to adjust this on previous vehicles as to not have it slam into the garage each time it opens.

Thank you!

Any new news on this front? With a Thule box up on the cross bars (in the back position of the three), when the rear hatch opens all the way it hits my gear box. I’d like to be able to have this set up to stop just short of full height.

As i do with almost everyting these days, i just asked ChatGPT. Now your job is to go and test it and report back...:)

Manually Adjusting the Liftgate Stop Height

  1. Open the Liftgate
    • Press the liftgate button on the key fob, inside the vehicle, or on the liftgate itself.
  2. Manually Adjust to Desired Height
    • Once the liftgate is open, gently pull it down or push it up to your preferred stopping height.
  3. Set the New Height
    • Press and hold the liftgate close button (located on the bottom edge of the liftgate) for a few seconds until you hear a chime/beep. This confirms that the new stop height is saved.
  4. Test the New Setting
    • Close the liftgate, then open it again to ensure it stops at the new height.
Resetting to Default

If you want to reset the liftgate to open fully again:

  • Open it and push it all the way up manually.
  • Then press and hold the close button until you hear a chime.

Let me know if you need more help!

This is basically how it works on the Model Y, which I struggled to figure out for a while. I will test this out soon.
