This seems new. I know the wheel and interior color options changed with the intro of the Tri motor but didnt realize the exterior colors were also now limited. Lowest trim, Dual Standard, now only has 5 color options. No Limestone, Rivian Blue or Red Canyon.
I'm all for simplification if this decreases complexity and cost for Rivian.

They must have just changed this. That didn't used to be the case. At this very moment there are dual standard vehicles in all of those colors in inventory

Good. It makes sense to differentiate between the ascending price points. As the price goes up so does Rivian’s margins so it makes sense to offer the goodies to the higher tiers.

Probably also the case of people looking at the cheapest trims aren't taking the paint colors with additional cost.

Yeah, since there's an upcharge for the other colors anyways, my guess is this is really a manufacturing streamlining move. Have a bunch of dual-standards in the queue? Now you only have to worry about 5 colors instead of 9.

The reduced wheel options on the yet-to-be-released Quad than on the Tri seems like an odd choice.

I'm assuming this is due to the power output. Probably only allowing wheel and tire combinations that can safely reach the top speed and acceleration targets

Yeah, they probably are offering the colors that are most popular at that trim. But only LA Silver is free so they are still paying more for the other 4 options.

I think limiting colors makes sense. However they have eliminated every color that is actually a color.

If Rivian wants people to think these are fun vehicles, they need to at least offer 1 fun color.

Even if all of those greys are the most popular choices, has anyone ever not purchased a vehicle because there were only 3 shades of grey to choose from? I doubt it. They are getting rid of the wrong choices.

The "free" color(s) is(are) always the most common color sold.

Must be new. I'm the owner of a Rivian Blue Dual Standard and there were many in inventory at the time I bought mine.

All colors now are additional cost, except LASilver.

And if IIRC they were all bumped up in price.

ETA - holy moly, black is $3k now, and most are $2500.

The color change happened 3+ months back. There was a post on reddit about it.

they literally did this as I was ordering back in November. We were pretty upset about it because we had our hearts set on rivian blue. We placed an order for forest green and then scoured inventory and found a dual standard in rivian blue with premium audio. Had to pay for the dark 22” sport but cest la vie.

wound up taking delivery much sooner and got the car we wanted anyways.

Didn't realize they changed it that long ago! (Of course that was after I had gotten mine so I wasn't pay attention as closely)

But true to form, Rivian continues to produce vehicles with options you can't select by orders haha
