Hi All,

Wondering if any of you have gotten the recall or service call to bring your Rivian in to have the hubs retorqued? They also replaced my 12v battery under a recall as well.

Well, basically 48 hours later I was pulling into my garage and felt a sort of stutter from the rear and suddenly the dash lit up like a Christmas Tree - Drive Unit Error, Limp Mode, 4WD system fully engaged. All sorts of fun lights.

I did a hard reset and tried driving again. I got a few blocks and boom I felt that weird stutter at the rear and the into limp mode. It said I couldn't go above 42 so I started to make my way home again and it went into emergency stop mode and directed me to the side of the road and then I was stuck. I did a hard reset one more time and was able to limp back to my house.

My R1S was sent by flatbed to the service center. No real info yet - the note said they needed to escalate it to a sr service person...

No loaners available so I'm stuck driving a massive Yukon...

Wondering if any others have had this happen to them.

Thanks,

The upside is in my experience (Franklin, TN service center), even with long SC waits on appointments, problems like this get pushed to the front of the line and usually get resolved quickly.

I'm just wondering if this happened because of the retorque hubs recall. It's so strange that it happened so soon after that.

I hope it wasn't from the retorque as I'm going to the Menomonee Falls, WI SC in 3 hours for that work! Wishing you luck

This just happened to me last week right out the SC. After the same service my car went into turtle mode. Looks like the inverter went bad - they had to drop the motor to replace the inverter. Only 19K on my car...pretty scary.

Sorry to hear that OP. I had my hubs torqued and luckily no ill effects. The front end is so much quieter now with road imperfections. Feels/Sounds very solid.

Likely bad luck and not related. Rear motor or disconnect (if you have a dual motor) failure most likely.

Maybe bad inverter. That really stinks.

Rivian needs to get the R2 correct without these R1 type sudden failures. Early adopters are willing to put up with a lot. Mass market not so much.

My vehicle has been at the Burbank center for 2 weeks now for an HVAC / high voltage failure, so I feel the pain and frustration. Love the car... when I get to drive it.

You would think that they should not be related at all.... but it seems odd that it's happened to several people shortly after retorquing. Makes little sense that there could be a cause/effect here...

I got a call last Thursday for the recall; they could have gotten me in on Saturday (hmmm). I was in the mountains, so that wasn't going to work, so I scheduled for today at 9 AM. Yesterday, I got a call confirming my appointment for 7:30 AM; I said no, it's at 9:00 AM. They didn't have a slot, so I am taking it in on Saturday at the Denver SC. I will make sure to mention your issue. Thanks for the heads-up!
Ron

I'm sitting at the WI service center right now and asked the seemingly knowledgeable service advisor that I worked with last month on some other issues. I showed him this thread title and he said torquing the hub bolts would be unrelated to going into limp mode. He said they've been calling vehicles back for about a year for the hub bolts. I know that doesn't help, but figured I'd share what he said.
I have a quad motor. I asked if the bolts were in the front end. He said front and back.

Scrap yards are full of vehicles that failed shortly after their last service.
