Hey everyone,
Wondering what everyone's maintenance costs are? I have my first 7500 mile service (tire rotation + multi point inspection) and Rivian is quoting me $235.00. That seems a bit high to me. Is that normal?

This would easily be $250 at other Dealerships where they would love to find something the warranty doesn't cover. Better to catch anything that may be showing early wear to get it corrected sooner than later under warranty.

I agree with others that the price ain’t bad.

I however do my rotations for free at LeSchwab down the road. I didn’t buy my current set of tires from them but will be buying the next set there.

truck currently at 63k miles

Looks as if I paid $160 for 7,500 mile service. Initially quoted $300, but a tire rotation wasn't required.

R1S is my 5th EV and maintenance costs are significantly less than ICE vehicles. I think it's just basically tire rotation. Chevy tried to charge me $130 for a cabin filter for a Bolt EUV. Bought a filter from Auto Zone for $25 and watched a YT video and it took me about 5 minutes to do it myself.

Does someone have a check list of what they look at during this service?
I live almost 2 hours away from a service center. I enjoy working on my toys.

You need it on a vehicle made by a company that is still relatively new to manufacturing and mass production. You need it for a line of vehicles that has rolling changes and multiple service bulletins for various potential issues, with no clear info on affected VIN range, like hub bolts working their way loose and making contact with other components, or a defective leaky damper. Inspection can catch problems early, both known and not-known issues. Early enough to be covered by warranty. How much was spent to buy/lease the car? Why is 235 dollar inspection suddenly a problem? Did you all stretch yourselves too far to have one?

Do you spend a little for periodic dental check up or do you do nothing until you discover you need oral surgery?
This is not an honest argument. When I go to the dentist, they clean and examine my teeth in ways I cannot (scraping, polishing, x-rays). My teeth are also out of warranty, so if they break, I am on the hook for repair/replacement. This preventive dental maintenance is far cheaper in the long run. This would instead be an analog for someone choosing not to change their oil.

In the truck's case, Rivian isn't performing any preventative maintenance; they're just looking around. If something fails, the warranty covers it at no cost to me. There's no need to pay them anything to look around. If there is something serious that affects vehicles and they recommend you bring it in, they'll have a service campaign like they did for the hubs. I was notified via a message and they did that work gratis while they installed my PTC.

$235 is not "suddenly a problem," it was never a good idea as it's just flushing money away for no benefit. Just because the truck 6 figures, doesn't mean I can be fleeced for 3. I probably wouldn't schedule the service even if it were free. It is a hassle for me to drive out to the SC and wait around for them to inspect the car, assuming they do this in an hour while you wait. It'd be a total non-starter if I had to drive out, get a loaner, drive home, and then drive back again. Heck, and I'm only an hour away. This cost also flies in the face of those who say EVs need virtually no maintenance. I have no recommended inspections for my gas vehicles, just fluid and filter changes along with tire rotations. If I think there's an issue with something, I take it in, just like I do with the Rivian.

I had my 7500 mile inspection done by mobile service. Did not do the tire rotation. Instead did that myselF. Paid $164.78 just for the service. If you have done rotations on cars before the process is the same plus put the vehicle in tire change mode. The only additions are the pucks and a 3T, preferably long reach, jack if you don’t already have that. While I wondered about whether the cost was worth it, it gave me peace of mind to have the tech look over the vehicle for anything they knew could be a problem. I asked specifically about the front suspension hub and he said he looked at it and it was marked purple, meaning the service center had already addressed it. Cost was pretty reasonable, especially considering the tech had to drive an hour each way. I’ve attached the Rivian checklist (two pages) for those wondering.

Thank you, that's what I was wondering about.
