Hello my dudes!

Today I'm thrilled to announce the latest iteration of our phone mounting solution for Rivian R1T and R1S vehicles: the NextGen Phone Mount V2. After testing numerous prototypes and collecting feedback from owners, the this enhanced version is now available in multiple configurations to suit different preferences and setups.

As with every product that I've designed, this is available to purchase or to 3D print for little to no cost. Details are at the bottom of the post.

What's New in v2?
The NextGen Phone Mount V2 has been painstakingly updated to make this the very best phone mount on the market for the Rivian R1T and R1S. Here's what's new:
  • Strength: Dimensions have been overhauled, so it's absolutely rock solid, even with heavier devices.
  • Compatibility: We're now offering it with 20MM and 1 Inch attachment sizes. This wider availability for larger sizes is due to the best-in-class mount strength.
  • Refinement: Contours have been refined so it integrates beautifully with the interior. Unlike other solutions, it small so it doesn't block airflow from the vent, and you don't have to futz with the dash pad so there is no warping or bending.
  • Stability: The mounting balls have been redesigned with a new, textured skin. This allows attached phone holders to SIGNIFICANTLY better secure to the ball with less pressure. Other mounts tend to slip.
  • Precision: Production is now 30% more precise, reducing layer lines and artifacting. It's now much closer to mass-produced OEM-like part to blend in better.
  • Flexibility: In addition to the larger attachment sizes, we're now retailing it with FOUR different phone holders to better suit your style and needs. Each is a name-brand solution with hundreds or thousands of five-star reviews. None are white-labeled junk.

Keeping What Works
The NextGen Phone Mount V2 continues the precedents set by the last generation phone too:
  1. The mount is constructed of premium-grade ASA for excellent durability, UV resistance, and temperature resistance of up to 300 degrees. Others in the market are made from cheaper PETG which can deform in high heat, or from ABS which will fade from UV exposure.
  2. The ball mount is modular allowing for easy swaps if you move to a different phone holder or easy replacement should something break. Additionally, we're now selling a kit with ALL AVAILABLE BALL SIZES for maximum flexibility.
  3. Everything is secured in place by an M5 x 35MM stainless steel bolt and nut. Others are clipped together or clip in, which is much, much more prone to fail.

Three Ball Sizes (with an updated design!)
The NextGen Phone Mount V2 is now compatible with all three ball sizes - 17MM, 20MM and 1 Inch. The 17MM works with most phone mounts, 20MM works with the co-branded Offroam x Peak Designs products, and a 1" size designed for RAM branded items only.

Each ball has been overhauled as well to be textured where the phone mount clamps to it. This textured approach, combined with the durability of our premium ASA material, allows phone holders to clamp to the ball better, with less slipping. The end result is a more stable phone.

Four Certified Phone Holders
This mount alone will not hold a phone in your Rivian - it is designed to be an attachment for a 3rd party phone holder. The phone holder snaps onto the ball mount and locks down in place via a locking screw on the back.

This time around, we've certiified (and sell) FOUR different phone holders to better suit your individual needs. Each has hundreds of reviews across the web, and none are white-labeled junk:
  • ATB 720 Degree: MagSafe / magnetic that holds exceptionally well and has a secondary adjustment screw half way to the end. This holder provides the best flexibility of every mount we sell as you can really dial in the phone location.
  • Lisen Offset Mount: MagSafe / magnetic holder that holds quite well too. It's offset to the side to ensure you phone doesn't disrupt the flow of air from the vent and it's open in the center so it appears streamlined and visually disappears over time.
  • Lisen Charging Mount: A charging MagSafe / magnetic setup that charges fast and with limited to no heat. It holds onto the phone well and has a nearly invisible blue LED surround at night so you can target it. It uses less than 1mw of power when not charging, so it will not impact the 12V battery. This mount doesn't offset the phone, so it's more in the vent airstream, which helps dissipate any heat created.
  • Lisen Charing / Cooling Mount: A charging MagSafe / magnetic setup with a cooling fan on the back of it. It holds the phone well and is inaudible when running. It has a small, very dim lightning bolt in yellow to assist with targeting, and uses less than 1mw of power when charging, so it will not impact the 12V battery. This mount offsets the phone from the vent airstream as it has it's own airstream.
Pictures of each mount are in the gallery on OpenSourceEV.com - both of the part, and what it looks like installed. As each mount is magnetic, they all come with a metal ring that can be affixed to your phone or case if not equipped already. Charing phone holders all come with a USB-A to USB-C cable too. (the USB-A side plugs in)

I was all set to place an order, but noticed something I just can't unsee. Wondering if you'd be open to make a couple small design tweaks? I think it would make the product look a bit more refined.

First thing, shown in magenta, possible to extend the outboard end of the mount to meet the metallic trim so there isn't a gap and looking unfinished?

Second thing is more subtle and it could be because of the perspective. Top edge of the mount looks parallel to seams of the dash. However the bottom edge looks a bit uneven and tapered towards the wood. Is this due to design or inherent to the printing process? i.e. limitations in precision?

Both of those are actually by design.

The left opening is there purposefully as the gap is required to install. In practice, it's not noticeable at all as it follows the line of the plastic bit under it, and is obstructed by both the holder and the phone when installed.

The slight slant is so it's flush with the bottom of the dash pad. The pad itself is actually about 1-2 MM higher toward the outside of the vehicle. The last version was straight and actually left a gap that I wanted to resolve. I initially just raised the entire top until I realized that they did it purposefully, likely due to how it's constructed.
