I was contacted by a Rivian Guide last week and today I confirmed my order and signed my PBA. I'm stunned, because I'm not even a Launch Edition order holder and just placed my order less than six months ago. The Guide actually said she could get me a truck from their inventory of Launch Edition trucks (again, I'm not even a Launch Edition holder) within days if I wanted to switch wheels. I declined the offer as I really want my specific configuration. Guide said to expect my truck in four to six weeks. My original delivery was estimated to be in the December timeframe. I'm excited and very surprised -- was not expecting anything so soon. Makes me wonder if more people than expected are not fulfilling their orders when they come up or if Rivian is making more vehicles than they forecast a couple months ago...
unbelievable.

I am so confused. Mostly by assigning launch editions. That's a big change from their original plan.
Yeah I have asked previously if there were any Launch Green undelivered would I be able to purchase one and was told NO. I don't care about the launch part, but LG is still my favorite color.

unbelievable.
It's pretty clear they are running large batches of GW/BM right now, with matches going to people without regard to order date all over the place. I would also think they are considering the pace of deliveries in any given location, and so counterintuitively a lot of recent deliveries in a local area could be a negative because they don't want to flood a regional service center with inevitable tuning and touch ups post delivery. I could see them wanting to take a rotating wave approach for that reason. They have the data to know that XX% of deliveries will be back in the service center in the first two weeks after delivery, for example.

But, if you're seeing people in your same area take delivery of your same config with a materially different order date, that would be cause for frustration.

I guess they are just pushing the trucks at the new price point.

I've now seen 4 confirmed people with late 2020 or 2021 order dates take trucks in the same configuration in my area. What I don't understand is why they wouldn't reach out to earlier pre-order holders in the area if they get a truck with mostly the same configuration but maybe different wheels or something. At least pretend that reservation date means something and give them the option to purchase before moving on to the next in line. .

I do not buy in to any one theory as nothing really makes sense. Especially for those people who pre-ordered pretty standard config launch edition R1Ts in 2018 and 2019 and don't have info.

Yeah, that's unexplainable. I really don't think they have a company policy of prioritizing order dates, at least not at a minute level. I think the Guides have a ton of latitude on how to deal them out, and HQ are probably just tracking at a 30,000 ft level things like average days since reservation for the pre order pool at large. So that number can be going down to their satisfaction even if it means some early people wait longer.

I have two orders, LE truck and Adventure SUV (originally swapped) and at one point I pondered if I switched them would I receive my 11/2021 Adventure truck before my 1/2020 LE SUV. I'm pretty sure I would have at this point. In fact, I might have received the latter order first even if they were both trucks, depending on config.

Agreed on the first point.

I I honestly think you are more likely to receive an R1T before the R1S no matter what the configuration. it seems like R1S are barely going to be delivered this year. I bet mostly just to employees as they did with the 2021 R1T deliveries. But it would stink to lose your LE status on the SUV order if you really want that. Might be something to talk to a guide about if you get one.

Yeah, I already have guide and stuck with LE T and Adventure S. LG/FE R1T is either in production or already at service center so delivery is imminent. That's the 1/2020 order.

Ah - I misunderstood the original post. That's great. Hopefully you get that soon.

I was assigned a guide last week, had the call on Friday, and she asked me if I was open to any variations in my configuration - gave her a few colors and wheels options that I'd be open to. She said she'd let me know. I texted her yesterday and she asked me about my openness to additional colors including forest green (definitely no on FG). Told her thanks for keeping a lookout and then she refreshed her page and it told her mine is built and going through final tests and inspections right now. I couldn't get her to give me any kind of official revised delivery date - so all I still *actually* have is from the December 2021 email when I still had the max pack of 1H23. However, I was able to pry out of her that pessimistically speaking, I should be in my truck by July 1, so I'm placing myself in the May - June delivery window.

Had a guide call today and signed the PBA and the configuration is locked. All details in signature.

As an early 2019 order near 3 service centers with no contact, I’ve got to say that I find this thread frustrating.

However, I keep in mind that there have been ZERO forest edge trucks delivered and ZERO R1S delivered, so I’ll save my true frustration for when deliveries occur. Right now I’m not convinced these dates are real. We have had two FE deliveries “happening tomorrow” that never happened.

WTF with how Rivian is picking people/places to assign R1T's coming off the line.
As a mid-2020 reservation holder, it pains me to see guides assigned to 2021 orders.

And doubly-WTF with some guide contacts just being "exploratory calls" ... if you're going to make contacts for the sole purpose of shifting a configuration to match an earlier delivery, then those calls should be done chronologically from reservation dates (applied to those seeking a L.E. R1T).

But who is assigning guides? Why is someone with a Nov 2021 date even getting a guide before someone with June 2020? That's the part that. is crazy making.

Assign guides based on targeted delivery areas and order date. Then ask those customers if they want the trucks coming down the line that are close to but maybe not exactly what they ordered. If they don't keep going down the line chronologically until you find someone who does.

I give ZERO f***ks about getting a launch edition if it means I don't have to sit her on my hands watching folks who ordered 6 months ago getting a truck before folks who ordered 3 years ago. Keep your silver badge, I'll pay $1800 for my wheels, and I'll be a happy camper (oh and I'll move from LG to red, yellow, lime, blue, or black and pay for that too). Of course, Rivian will never know that because they will never ask.

It all seems pretty random at this point. I live near the Irvine HQ and the Costa Mesa delivery center, and there are people with dates after even mine getting contacted. I can't be too mad though since I ordered in 2021 and there are people before me waiting. I figured it would be neck and neck between Ford and Rivian to get me an EV Truck first, but Ford seems to be way ahead at this point.
