Order date 3/19, R1T LG/BM, 20" standard, reinforced plate
Guide contacted me and went through the whole payment process. Delivery scheduled.
Then told the truck was shipped to CA by accident.
Given available options for a different truck. Picked a limestone option. Told I would have to pay for the difference in price.
A few days later(today) checked in, told that truck was damaged and given a list of other available ones. Pick a white one without the underbody shield.
I'm really not impressed with the process thus far.

Were they giving you other options so that you could get your truck sooner, rather than waiting for them to deliver what you ordered? Feels like they are desperate to get their delivery numbers as high as possible...

Yes, to get delivery sooner. Although I have no evidence that my truck ever existed or wasn't damaged or sold to somebody else. So who really knows

i mean Q1 numbers are already out, they'd have to be padding Q2 numbers but that deadline is still weeks out, doesn't make sense that it's a numbers play

Unless they want a favorable mid-quarter update when they do earnings in 5 days. They'd love to show a non-linear growth in both production and deliveries midway through the quarter I'm sure.

Yep, last earnings call they showed deliveries for the last quarter as well as deliveries up to a week before the earnings call.

If it were me, and having gone through the exact same BS when I bought my Xterra from a dealershi(t)p. I would just stand firm on what you originally spec'd and have them sort it out. It's as you say, bought and paid for. Balls in Rivian's court to figure out.

That probably means a longer wait for OP. I am sure Rivian is fine either way as it can just find the next reservation holder "waiting in line."

Rivian needs to have the vehicles on-site before scheduling deliveries with buyers.

Thing is, I'm flexible on numerous items. Like many here, I've changed my configuration many times. Good call on the Xterra, we've had ours since 2011 pro4x manual and love it.

On the Xterra, get the transmission line re-routed out of the main radiator. Had mine crack and trans fluid leaked into the engine rad and vice versa into the transmission. 7k canadian later and the lines are now rerouted to bypass the main radiator. Otherwise, solid vehicle and only problem I've ever had.

And yeah, I hear you. I've altered my colour choice a few times. Team Yellow?

That really stinks. I’m flexible on color but I’m a little hesitant to have the guide looking to match me with whatever trucks they are seeing rather than just waiting for what I have spec’d. Unless it’s already at my local service center and QC’d.

Sure seems like a lot of damage going on.

My order was cancelled the morning of my delivery date due to damage during transit. Then the repair was delayed because the part ordered to replace the damage pieced was damaged in transit.
Either that is Rivian's go to line if things are way behind or they need to start using carriers who know what they are doing.

Yes, these things happen, but it has the appearance of being an issue, or a canned excuse.

The amount of damage is too damn high (see meme for reference )

I recommended encasing all trucks in giant nerf footballs to my guide.

My vehicle was supposed to be delivered to me May 4 but was damaged and now is pushed out to May 16.

When I queried about the damage to my vehicle I kept getting slightly varying answers as to what exactly was damaged and exactly what repairs were done.

When they finally let me know repairs were finished they alerted me that there was a tiny barely noticeable scratch on the drivers door. I was asked if I would be open to taking delivery still.

This teeny tiny barely noticeable scratch was so slight that when I said I wanted that repaired before delivery I was told it would push back the delivery date because the whole door had to be repainted/dipped. /smh

What did I learn?

My guide who is located in Normal, IL only knew what she was told about my truck in Atlanta, Ga.

Nothing more that that. I suspect that's the norm.

Guides are low level logistics, customer service and that is it. Not meant as a slight, just what appears to be a fact.

If you want to know particulars and want a degree of certainty I would suggest escalating it up the ladder and request pictures. Otherwise you will be dealing with a middleman who sits between the customer and management, and is under pressure to put the best spin on any particular situation.

BTW, they never did give me specifics on what happened. At the time I legally owned the vehicle they had damaged.

Luckily they replaced the first ordered truck with a new one.

Rivian seems to still be struggling to put it all together.

There is a decent chance that in all this chaos my second truck could have been damaged and repaired. Who the heck knows at this point in time.

I had to text my guide today because there had been no communications without me reaching out first. Glad I did as the reply was about taking delivery. One would think that the very least they would do is to be proactive in communications since I am a month and a half past my original delivery date.

We'll see if my truck actually makes it or if it's damaged in delivery.

Regardless, best of luck to you in getting it all sorted out.
