Hello friends,

I am so excited to go to camp with my R1S on Thanksgiving days.
I have 3 years old boy, wife and father in law And planning to rent a trailer(with shower, bathroom, bed, and kitchen, etc.)
I don’t know yet where we are going to go but could you please give some tips when choosing the trailer(website) and suggest locations? I live in Fullerton and south of Orange county or Oceanside would be ideal.
I know that R1S can tow from 5000lbs to 7700lbs but try to choose 4000-5000lbs trailer.
If you are a pro camper or anyone, please help first camper with camping plan!

my boy loves to run and play dirt. Can’t ride a bicycle yet but like water and playground/grass any outdoor activities.

Definitely reserve a campsite ahead of time, check out reserve California website, it will help you find a spot.
Plenty of beautiful places on the South Central coast, just keep your towing range in mind and look ahead to map out charging spots.

Is there any way to know how many miles i would get based on the weight of the trailer?

If you have never towed, do some research on basic trailering safety, including how to handle trailer sway, and how to back up. Presumably whoever rents it to you will provide instructions on how to safely hitch and unhitch, but if not make sure you understand exactly what you are doing. Also make sure you understand how to use the features of the trailer and if it will use the tow vehicle to charge the camper's batteries. You particularly want good and clear instruction if it requires a weight distributing hitch or anti-sway system (likely not needed if you go with a lighter trailer). Make sure you know if you have to provide your own hitch and ball and what size ball is required. From everything I've seen, a camping trailer will probably cut your range by 50% (I've only towed a light utility trailer around town so don't have personal experience with the R1S range/I've towed camping trailers with gas cars). I've watched quite a few of the videos from all electric family (https://www.youtube.com/@AllElectricFamily) who tow a large airstream, might be good to take a look at what they've done.

You should have reserved a campground six months ago. The State ones will all be booked. You'll need to go with a private one like Newport Dunes or the one in the back bay in Mission Bay. Yea if you've never towed or used a camping trailer, it's going to be an adventure.
Here's Newport which I'd recommend for a first timer. Pricey but close.

Are you looking for a site that has water, power and waste disposal or are you looking at boondocking?

As another mentioned reserve ASAP and you may have missed the window already; it can't hurt to try. As far as towing, the rule of thumb is you will lose half of your normal range while towing. Ultimately the weight and aerodynamics of the trailer will play a bigger role in what you actually get.

Once you pick a spot you want to use something like abetterrouteplanner.com to begin planning your route and charging stops. Try to find ones that are not more that 120 miles apart and ones that are trailer friendly. You may need to pull up plugshare on each stop you are looking at to see which ones are and are not trailer friendly.
