I need Waze. I drive recklessly fast especially on the highway and have never gotten a ticket in the last 10 years completely due to Waze and its incredibly user generated speed trap marking system.

I now have the fastest accelerating vehicle I have ever owned and I am forced to run waze on a separate device or drive around nervous knowing that so many other driver know something that I dont.

Other benefits that I don't care about.

Or you could drive a reasonable enough speed that the cops ignore you ;)

Yes...I want Waze (really CarPlay). But you could just drive like a rational human and/or install a radar detector.

Overwhelmingly, customers want CarPlay. I really do not understand why Rivian does not listen and add it. A very simple way to make the customer happy.

Or, customers that want carplay are an annoyingly loud minority ;)

Name a mainstream manufacturer other than tesla which doesn't have carplay?

Yes- every vehicle manufacturer has just caved in to the annoying loud minority and hasn't done any research or focus groups on what their customers actually want.

The downside of startup EV manufacturers is they think they don't have to listen to their customer base, and frankly they're right. IMHO the R1T has no substitution right now. The closest competitor is quite a different vehicle.

If I were buying an ICE 1/2 ton truck and one had carplay and the other didn't that would be a huge factor for me.

I highly doubt Rivian ports waze in. Sorry bud. They have way too much going on to add a second maps provider.
I also believe they have a sunk cost fallacy on their maps system, which is why we won't see carplay or another maps provider. If you don't have on already look into the multitude of posts on phone mounts (I bought mine from riviparts), this is what I use for waze and podcasting.

I too would love to see full blown carplay but I have read enough to realize this is not going to happen so im just crossing my fingers for waze.
mabowden is probably right though that they would not give a secondary map system. (but they did give us multiple audio sources so one can hope)

radar detectors even with speed trap marking will never replace waze just becase of the sheer volume of users.

Just run waze on your phone. That's what I do since all I need is the audible announcements.

This is what I currently but it just seems redundant. Just imagine how nice Waze would be on that big screen.

From the guy that found 'standard cruise control' :)
Was wondering how long it'd take for someone to call me out. In my defense, I haven't been pulled over in the Rivian yet (and 111 mph speed limiter isn't nearly enough to "run").

You speak with more certainty than Rivian does on the topic. Their official position is “it’s not currently on our roadmap.” Clearly they are keeping the option open. It’s up to us to continue to demand it. I recommend focusing on the safety concerns of using your phone while driving. Rivian currently doesn’t care about distracted driving.
