I was wondering what the difference was between these two? Is it just software or is it hardware or is it actual motors. Because I have a quad motor adventure. That I bought in 2024. But now it says the new one is 2.6 seconds for 0 to 60 and like 1100hp.

Can someone please explain the difference. Thank you
Easy. Early reservation quad: $78,000. New quad: $125,000? Worth $47,000 more? Nope.

The rear size won’t fit but you can just use the 275/50/22 front size all around on the old quads. The new quad is a staggered setup with 305/45/22 in the rear.
Why can't you? You'll lose some articulation for off roading I'm sure, but they'll fit with proper offsets. They're not doing any shortened axle or widened rear arches on the new quad from what we've seen.

Would guess the QuadMax to be $120-ish, out the door. To those who answered politely and informatively..a tip ‘o the cap! Those who were d**ks however….

If you have the new rims that go with the g2 quad on a g1 quad it would be fine but if you’re just putting different tires on the existing g1 22” wheels I think the 305 will rub.

Exactly why I mentioned proper offsets 😀 lots of people, especially the ones that would want 305s, buy aftermarket wheels where the sky's the limit. I went 22x9 with a slight offset change.

Madhat: is the huge offset just to clear the calipers?

Well, a Carrera is around $130…a Turbo S is around $270. Is the extra $140K worth around 1 second 0-60? Of course not…unless you WANT IT! Then it is! Disposable income sets the “worth”

I'm running the up front tires as a square setup on my R1S Tri motor. They're awesome, no more tire spin unless I'm accelerating in a hard corner.

I got them off tirerack.

Looks like the 305's are available now too. Specs say you need a 9.5-11.5" wide rim, I think the normal sport 22's are 8.5

I wonder if the wides will have a 20 inch wheel available eventually. (20 inch wheel club represent!)

We're talking max performance tires, I don't think you'd really want to go outside of the recommended wheel widths. I'm somewhat tempted to get the 305s and see how they mount up on the OG 22" rims, but that's an expensive experiment.

You're not off-roading with these tires, they seem fragile.

100% this. There is no such thing as "worth" at the 100K dollar price point. Outside of a few specialty vehicles built for specific purposes like a garbage truck, there is no vehicle you NEED at 100K. It's all wants once you get get up that high in price, so worth is subjective. It depends on how much you have, and how much you're willing to spend.

Bad communication on my part. I meant to further my comment that people do aftermarket wheels... I'm still running 275/50/22 Toyo Proxies on the 22x9.
If i ever get overly flush with cash i might get Atomic to build a set of 11" wide wheels and throw some PSS5 on there... it'd rather first find someone around Phoenix to do back to back drives with comparing my Toyos to the Michelin before biting that big bullet though!

The answer is easy enough, and that is no comparison - the PSS5 would blow away the Toyos in this instance. Not only the PSS5 have more sticky rubber and the wider width, but the experiment would involve pitting the Gen 2 Quad against the Gen 1 Quad with much more hp/tq.

No comparison 305 on the rear with a Gen 2, but there are already guys out and about with the PSS5 in 275 on Gen 1s.
Yes, 100% i agree they'd be better than the all season sport Toyos, but is it ENOUGH for me to make the swap for my daily is the question. Especially considering they're twice the cost and half the life.

I think one of the singular advantages the new quad has over the original is the improved thermal performance over the original Bosch motors.

While it's not often that one can de rate the originals, you still can. I've done it a handful of times on some more intense high amp off roading, and while trying to get unstuck in some deep snow on a hill using soft sand mode. The motors can recover quickly, but not before they push their limits and back off power substantially.

The other side to this, is it uses less energy oil bathing the stator in the Gen 2 while maintaining luke warm temps, vs the Gen 1 playing catch up jacket cooling a hot inner core.

Lots of differences. Better to ask ChatGPT/CoPilot for the summary. I just did and it is quite good.

EDIT: Pasted below, hopefully it copies nice.

The differences between the first-generation Rivian quad-motor vehicles and the second-generation quad-motor models with over 1,000 horsepower are pretty dramatic—especially under the skin. Here's a breakdown of how Rivian evolved its flagship R1T and R1S platforms:

⚙ Powertrain & Performance
FeatureGen 1 Quad-MotorGen 2 Quad-Motor (2025)
MotorsBosch-suppliedRivian-designed, in-house
Horsepower835 hp1,025 hp
Torque908 lb-ft1,198 lb-ft
0–60 mph~3.1 sec2.5–2.6 sec (with Launch Mode)
Quarter Mile~11.8 sec10.5 sec

  • Gen 2 introduces Launch Mode, which optimizes suspension, battery, and traction control for maximum acceleration.
  • Active torque vectoring and staggered tire setup (Michelin Pilot Sport S5) improve handling and grip.

🔋 Battery & Range
FeatureGen 1Gen 2
Battery PackMax Pack (~135 kWh usable)Max Pack (~149 kWh usable)
Range~314 miles~355 miles (estimated)
Charging Speed~200 kW peak~220 kW peak

  • Gen 2 uses a redesigned battery pack with improved thermal management and simplified architecture.

🧠 Software & Architecture
  • Gen 1 relied on Bosch ECUs and more than a mile of wiring.
  • Gen 2 slashes complexity with in-house zonal architecture, reducing ECUs from 17 to 7 and removing 1.6 miles of wiring.
  • Enhanced infotainment, driver-assist tech, and one-pedal driving with three regen levels.

🛋 Interior & Trim
FeatureGen 1Gen 2
Trim LevelAdventureAscend (premium)
MaterialsVegan leather, basic audioUpgraded vegan leather, premium audio, electrochromic glass roof
UI & ControlsTouchscreen-heavyImproved UI, better climate controls, Dolby Atmos audio

🛞 Ride & Handling
  • Gen 2 features recalibrated suspension, hydraulic roll control, and new dampers for smoother ride quality.
  • Off-road modes like Rally and Drift offer tailored torque delivery and suspension articulation.

The Gen 2 Quad-Motor isn’t just a refresh—it’s a full-on reinvention. Rivian’s move to in-house motor design and software integration has unlocked supercar-level performance in an electric SUV or truck. If you’re into EVs that can both shred trails and smoke Lamborghinis at the drag strip, this one’s a beast.

Not a perfect description. Several items listed for Gen2 are on the gen1 quad. So Chat GPT got some of it wrong.
