No. The Rivian started to lock up until it came to a complete stop, then it wouldn't move at all
You were literally stuck in the middle of the roadway with no way to get the vehicle off the road?
Wow! That is not acceptable at any level!!

That is so beyond dangerous.. I'd file a complaint with the NHTSA immediately...
https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index

We can not allow manufacturers to produce vehicles that can just suddenly stop dead and lock up in the middle of a roadway with no way to move them. Yes, vehicles die all the time.. but there needs to be a way to simply push a button in an emergency to force it into neutral so it can be rolled out of harm's way. Think of it dying over a RR crossing or in the middle of a long tunnel and locking up!

This is what scares me the most about Rivian. It's 90% fantastic. Best thing ever. But with a 10% chance of totally bricking without notice at the worst possible times.

I made up the percents, but the concept fits. I don't think I could handle the stress of wondering when my (imaginary) Rivian is going to brick on me.

Curious to know the exact behavior. Did it brake? Did the accelerator become unresponsive? Were you able to pull over safely and exit the vehicle, or did it just slam on the brakes? How fast were you traveling when it happened? Any guess what the behavior would have been at highway speeds?

I wasn't in the vehicle when my wife was driving it, but she just drove it 30 feet from our driveway when it started tapping on the breaks, warning her to pull over, after several feet it completely stopped, not allowing her to pull over to the curb. I suspect she was traveling 15 mph when it occurred. She was able to exit the vehicle without problems

The most important thing is how the manufacturer addresses these issues.

You will find stories like this on every car from every manufacturer. Some are better than others but anecdotes, unless frequent, are not a good way to gauge how common these issues are. You hear about it in Rivians because you’re on rivian forums. Go to BMW forums and you’ll hear about someone’s brand new motor going out. Go to Subaru and you’ll hear about the transmission and infotainment. Go to Dodge and you’ll hear about engines and electric going dead.

I’ve been a part of so many communities and it’s funny how often situations like this happen no matter where you are.

These cars seem to have a ton of issues. Anyone with another EV maker like Tesla have similar issues with those models? All I see are issues on this forum and I’m getting my R1S soon doesn’t really give me that warm and fuzzy ya know?

People with issues tend to post more in my experience. I had the same initial worries as you did since I’ve been on this forum for so long. But count me as a new R1S owner who couldn’t be happier after 1 month.

People tend to be much more vocal when they have a negative experience.

They also tend to discount any positive feedback as fanboy rhetoric which tends to prevent some people from sharing positive experiences.

I purchased a Tesla Model S in 2016, 4 years after they were released. I will say my R1S is ahead of that in fit and finish and it was built in the first year.

I’ve had 2 service visits, 1 was a bad module that had OTAs failing, the second was a slight leak in the right front air suspension that caused the right front to drop about 1/2 inch overnight. Neither of these issues prevented me from driving the vehicle and I had no issues with the delayed service appointments. Maybe because having a Tesla I’m more accustomed to service delays especially for issues that do not impact driving the vehicle.

Keep in mind the JD Powers award would never been given if the overall reality is what you are hearing on the forums.

I currently have 8500 miles on the R1S and zero regrets with my purchase.

Yes! Why?
Didn't see it on this thread, but swear I've seen posts in the past about not using snow mode with the AT tires. Something about "it puts the vehicle too low and jams on the tires" or something. If this is the case they should have big red warnings about not using that mode. ?

No time to google right now, can anyone verify?

I've never heard that. My R1S has 22" sport wheels

Well, let's see, a new EV truck goes dead in the middle of the street, can't even put it in neutral. That's a pretty negative experience IMO....but others think it's he's just being too vocal?? Lol! It's not he got a flat or the seat doesn't recline. I'd be pretty upset... New and expensive vehicle, barely any miles on it and it's already bricking... Makes you wonder what the next few thousand miles will look like and then some.

Could use of snow mode in perfectly dry and high traction condition be the cause? hmm
