Do I need to a get a new inspection on a new R1S?

In July I took delivery in Ithaca, NY. The vehicle was delivered to me. It came with a New York inspection sticker already mounted.

Just recently I received the official plates and registration in the mail along with a temporary inspection "sticker". It says it is valid for only 10 days.

My understanding is that in New York when you buy a vehicle you need to get it inspected within 10 days unless you are buying from a dealer.

Rivian is technically not a dealer, correct? My official registration is in August but the inspection sticker is from July.

Do you need to go get my own inspection?

Thanks for any help.

When my T was delivered last March it had a sticker in it from Brooklyn where they can perform inspections but the truck was not registered yet. Seems like an odd loophole that NYS doesn't really understand. If a trooper or local PD pulls you over they just look for the up to date sticker but I guess potentially it might not be attached within your DMV records. I chanced it and never got pulled over and tested it.

I don't know anything about New York but I did a google image search for "new york inspection sticker" and there's a giant expiration date right in the middle, is there not? I'd just go by that. You'd have to be the most d***head cop in the world to pull someone over and run the serial # on the decal. ?

I received the 10 day temporary inspection sticker with my registration as well. I've just ignored it so far.

You’re fine. The jnspection is tied to the VIN and they are allowed to inspect at sale but they aren’t a regular inspection shop for subsequent years.
If you go to the NYS DMV site and look up your registration, it won’t be flagged with the temporary inspection status because it was already inspected. They always send the temporary one out with new registrations in case it wasn’t inspected at point of sale.

Agree with Foobar, you're fine. If you make an account at myDMV.com you can check the registration and inspection status for your vehicle(s). Mine also came with a real sticker when I picked it up in Brooklyn and i got the temp sticker with my plates. Online it shows the inspection is not expired. I think they just always include a temp sticker with plates, since sometimes it's needed but not in this case.
