New owner here and I’m still figuring everything out and this forum has very helpful! I‘ve had it for about a week now, Gen 2 large battery. The temperatures dropped outside quite a bit so I don‘t know if that has something to do with it. But when powered off, doors locked, it makes this weird humming noise for hours at a time. I have not even started the truck since yesterday and I seem to be losing about 3-5% just sitting in my driveway. Video of sound attached.

That doesn’t sound normal to me. I have heard the AC compressor when it’s hot running, and the suspension air compressor run sometimes after parking, but neither sound like that!

I do have some vampire draining of the battery going on with my truck but that was after a recent software update. If yours is making this sound all the time when parked, I guarantee that’s the cause of your vampire draining.

I have a Gen 1, but that does not sound familiar at all. Maybe some fellow Gen 2 owners can chime in…

Yeah that's definitely not normal. My gen 2 only makes noise when I have cabin climate running or it's charging. And that's not what either of those things sound like.

I loose no charge overnight if it's 40 degrees plus. If it's sitting in 20-30 degree temps it'll wake up about once every 6-8 hours and stay awake for about an hour and loose 1% during that hour it's awake, then go back to sleep. But I haven't noticed any sounds when that's happening

My one month old R1S doesn't make a noise like that. Probably worth having Rivian look at

File a ticket with Rivian, then put your Rivian in camp mode, shut all power off, then lock doors to see if that gets rid of the noise

Thankd for the tip bigsky, does putting it in camp shut all the power off or how do I do that? And I’m just sort of bummed that I have only owned it for like 10 days and already have to get it serviced. Dumb question but the service is free correct? I have an apt for them to look at it on the 12th. See the screenshots from the Rivian Support on the issue.

And to clarify, yes it was parked outside but the temps were between 55 and 40 degrees so not cold at all.

They're already trying to gaslight you into thinking that's normal. Don't let them.

What are the ambient temps outside and over what period of time are you losing 3-4%?

And yes. This would be a free warranty repair

Op you already answered my question. Mine doesn't wake up at all in that temp range

I don't blame you. I'd be bummed too. FWIW there are a couple of things you can try, should you encounter wonky behavior.

1) Infotainment reset (unlikely to help in this situation) This will reset the infotainment computer that runs the screens. Push and hold the two outermost buttons on the steering wheel until the screens go black. They will restart

2) full vehicle reset (this might help your situation). Thes reboots the entire vehicle and all modules. Push and hold the hazard light button and the left most steering wheel button until the screens go black.

I'd for sure keep your appointment on the books, just in case. But might be worth trying the reset to see if that changes anything

Thank you mpshizzle, yeah it’s not that cold outside so no need for it to be doing it almost all hours of the day. I don’t believe this was happening before the latest software update but then again I wasn’t paying that close of attention since I have noticed it now and of course I’m checking it. I have actually lost about 10% battery in a 24 hour window. I did both of those resets this morning and I just went to check on it and it’s not doing it at the moment but I’ll check back every few hours and let you know. And yes I’m keeping my apt for sure! Thanks for he advice and help, fingers crossed the full reset did the trick.

Hopefully! Keep us posted! Even in low 30° weather 10% and 24 hours is excessive. The most I've seen is like 4% in 24 hours with extreme cold temperatures (below 35)
