UPDATE - @Michal below solved this. My stupidity apparently. So changed the name of the thread. This is not a 'known' issue with the software as the service center told me yesterday - instead a case of sharing your data with Rivian and their service providers - so that navigation works. More reason for me to stick with the carplay device.

--------

I know of several people, me included, who are currently experiencing navigation issues. My navigation says it's off-line, even though other data services (spotify etc) all work. I've hard reset several times, but the issue persists. It's not the GPS itself, because the map does 'move' with me. It just can't be used to navigate.

I took Thor in for a service yesterday for a door handle issue, and brought this to their attention.

I was told by 2 different techs that there is a 'known' navigation issue that is impacting 'some' of the R1s. It was introduced in a 'recent' update. Supposedly 'they are working on it'. I don't have more than that, but figured I'd share in case others are experiencing something similar. Hopefully it can be resolved soon.

Which update version are you currently running? I haven't downloaded the most recent yet, and I am not having issues (so far).

I'm on 2024.07.03, which I'm guessing is the culprit. Truthfully I don't know for sure, as I have the carplay device from evsportline which I use for navigation. I only realized when the mobile tech who came out last week to fix the door issue (and failed), recommend I remove the fuse tap for the carplay device before taking it to the service center. Because my door handle appeared to be an electric issue (turned out to be a loose connector), he said it would be better they didn't know I'd tapped into the fuse box. So I removed it, disabling the carplay, and saw the navigation issue.

I had the same problem and phone support was not of much help . It turns out that some of the navigation/routing features require submission of your location data. I suggest you enable all, test the navigation and keep track what you can disable without "breaking" things.

interesting. That's better info than the service center gave me, and makes sense. I turned off some of the big brother stuff, as I didn't want them tracking my driving habits and using against me / sharing with my insurance company etc. I guess I'll just stick with the carplay device if this is true. I'll temporarily share and see if that resolves.

I share this sentiment, but it's certainly an interesting one since rivian is marketed as an offload/adventure vehicles, yet most insurance companies don't allow offloading under their general policy. About a year ago I read about an R1T that flipped while offloading and Rivian was combing through vehicle logs while investigating the cause...ot would be great ti have an attorney in the community take a look at the agreements we all sign prior to delivery ?

Well stupid me. And stupid service center too. This is totally it. I'd gone with their version of 'known software issue' - when it's me turning off tracking, which says right there on the screen, it'll disable navigation. Doh !!!

Still, I don't like them sharing this data with their 'service providers'. Even more reason to stick with my carplay device.

I'll change the name of the thread to not confuse people. thanks !

Weird paranoia here. Somehow "carplay" won't do that but Rivian will, when it's against their privacy policy. I drive super aggressively with all of the stuff on, have taken my truck to off-road parks, drag strip, etc, and nothing has ever come of "shared data".

I get being careful with your data, but if people want to take advantage of the best technological pieces of these vehicles, sharing data is going to be a requirement. Because those service providers are who power much of the technology.

Less chance they'll be able to 'connect the dots' using a third party (apple / carplay) than if Rivian is tracking. One more hoop for the insurance company to have to jump through to get that data. Sure - maybe a bit of paranoia, but with AI and big data, not much of a stretch that they'll start using this data to deny claims in future.

Big data already correlates your location with your person through your "carplay" device. Take off the tinfoil hat and accept your fate.

I work for a very large software company, so am well aware of data tracking. I still think it's an extra step for the insurance company. They will know Rivian has tracking, so if they have a sharing arrangement, that would be the first place they'd go. A small portion of rivian drivers have carplay, so there's a chance they wouldn't take that step. Waze and apple maps are better than native rivian navigation for me, so I do have the choice to turn off Rivian tracking and keep wearing my tin foil hat :)

Map data is provided by Mapbox. See @Dark-Fx's signature. As for fear of being tracked, do you not carry your phone as you move about? What do you think is happening when you do so? You are already being tracked. Everything you do, and every transaction you make, even getting an insurance quote, generates data. Visiting this site generates data. Nothing wrong with taking precautions to make sure data isn't being abused. But moot to be paranoid. In order to avoid all risk, you'd have to completely severe yourself from society and technology.

My goodness, I know we're being tracked. My phone, my watch, my browser, my ISP, my tv, facial recognition, etc etc. I am more aware than most. I sometimes try to limit where I can, but it's a trade off with what functionality you'll lose v the privacy gains. In this case I do have a choice to not share this data with Rivian because I have an alternative navigation system. It's one less tracking source that could be used against me. That's it. We're just splitting hairs now.

I've changed the subject again on the post, since I don't think I can delete it. I've got to get back to work tracking our users...
