After noticing that I was in a very small minority of people not getting the 2023.38.0 update I knew something was up. I know full well that you cannot force fetch an update. And I also am aware that updates get released in batches over days or sometimes weeks. But I found out what my problem was and I fixed it. This post is for those of you who are weeks or months behind and still waiting for updates.
It occured to me that the RIVIAN is obviously trying to use my Wifi connection to download the update. I checked Wifi and it said "Connected". So I disconnected from wifi by turning off the toggle switch and then turned it back on. I happened to have the update screen in the background and I noticed that for a fraction of a second the 2023.38.0 update flashed on the screen and then disappeared !!!
I knew I was up to something. Annnd, the truck started having issues connecting to the same wifi again. It would try and try but then timeout. Very strange. So I did a hard reset on the truck, and that didn't help. But it was obvious that for whatever reason the truck has started to dislike my main wifi in the house. So rather than fight it, I deleted all the wifi saved connections and I had it connect to the guest wifi, which is basically the same network with different ssid. Nothing happened immediately, but I figured if it's now downloading the update, it would likely be a couple of hours before it works. And guess what, about 90 minutes later, my update was available to install.
What I would recommend to anyone stuck in an old update for more than 3 weeks :

- Delete your Wifi connections from the truck and re-add them
- Try a different wifi altogether
- Give it a few hours to download again
- Maybe go ahead and perform a full reset first just in case
Here are a few points that might be relevant:
- I use a set of Google Mesh devices in the house. I have 6 of them and no other device has had any issues. They're the 1st gen devices not the new "nest" ones.
- My ISP is COX (1000 Mbps down, 100 Mbps up)
- I have very strong wifi signal in the garage where the truck is parked as that is where a wired access point is located
