About to get delivery on my performance dual max r1s.

Knowing how capable the Rivians are off road, I do want to take mine off road, however it will be maybe 5% of the time. So I chose my R1S with the 22 range wheels.

But for that 5% of the time, I want to be able to have a set of 20" offroad 4 wheels/tires in my garage that I can swap on the fly if I get a chance to go off roading on a weekend.

I asked rivian, and they said the only way to swap tire/wheel sizes is to take it to the service center and they have to manually reset the wheel/tire selection in the computer.

To this I ask, has anyone requested or given feedback to Rivian so they can add an on the fly selector in the menu to change wheel/tire setup?

I understand that there could be hundreds of combinations, but all I ask is for Rivian to add the 3 or 4 wheel/tire selections that Rivian sells and pre-set them in the menu so that I can change my wheels on the fly between street and off road.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

They mean if you’re permanently switching or semi permanently. If you’re switching your tires for a few days you don’t need to reset your system. The reset would only change the speedometer and screen images anyhow, as I understand it.

I would usually be driving in the street wheel/tire setup, and sporadically use the off road wheel/tire setup. But I would like my speedometer to work correctly as well as correctly record the number of miles driven.

This is one of our most-requested features, rumors are that someday it may happen.

In that case -

20” wheels with 275/60r20 rubber will give you the same outer diameter as your 22” equipped rubber - problem solved.

thanks for the observation, is there like a formula to calculate this? Thanks!

Yes... Google is your friend for 100s of tire calculators. Also, tirerack has a whole section devoted to calculating tire diameter. But... it's even easier, Google your desired tires specifications and it will give you the actual diameter.

My R1S came with 22's and I switch my tires to ATs like you plan to... seriously, my speedometer is off like 1 mph at speeds above 65mph. Not even worth worrying about it.

if you switch from 22” to 20”a but went with the 275/65/20 size “34” tire, then your speedometer will be dead accurate. If you went with the 275/60/20 “33” size then your speedometer will report one to two mph over actual speed.

I have tested this multiple times using dedicated gps apps, Waze and now even google maps :)

I drive mine with all 3 setups back and forth based upon season. Truck and SUV are just fine.

Based on waze and other phone gps apps, I saw the same results as you. More accurate than with my delivered 22's in more of the speeds that I actually drive.

It also has a minor effect on the 360 camera stitching if your tire diameters change.

All stock tires are programmed with a 1-2mph variance. This applies to almost every single vehicle on the road. It’s unfortunate.

i absolutely don’t recommend driving without a reprogram if you go from stock 275/65/20 to 275/60/20. My speedometer was 3-4mph off! GPS speed would say 65 when I actually was going 61-62. Did this temporary until Rivian reverted my truck back to the 22” rim setup

I'm presently running 20 inch 60 series all-season tires in place of the 65 series all-terrain that came on the truck from the factory. The change in aspect ratio and tire type makes the overall diameter about 33", very close to that of the 21" wheel/tire combination, and provides slightly better range than the stock tires do, though with the downside that the speed/odometer readings are just over 3% high (3-4 mph at 65.) I plan to put the Scorpion AT's back on when the weather turns cold as they are 3 PMSF rated, so will be back to the factory error speedo/odo readings.

It would be nice to have the ability to adjust for the slightly different diameters, much more for having an accurate mileage reading than for speed. I hear that the feature is coming s00n.
