I am running a OnePlus 12. I believe I have all of settings correct to allow full running in background but most of the time PAAK is very laggy if it works at all. Closing the app and restarting seems to work. My wife's iPhone takes priority over my phone if she is anywhere near the truck even though her key functionality is disabled. I hate getting squished up against the dash when her seat settings take over.
Anyone else have a OnePlus with similar issues?

If you take the phone out of your pocket and turn it upright does it instantly unlock? The rivian app uses the sensors to wake up.

No. NFC tap works but sometimes phone doesn't even register as a key until reset of the app

We just started experiencing both of our iPhones being ignored (2025.14.30) and having to use the keycard instead, but once the keycard is accepted, the phones then seem to work.. This seemed to have started - ironically - as a result of a full reset. Following up with another reset doesn't seem to fix it either..

As an aside to OP, my wife's phone in her pocket typically trumps mine in hand and closer too..

My S24 Ultra has never been reliable as a PAAK.
I always have to have my Keycard on me and have to use it about 75% of the time. The strange thing is that PAAK will work for like 5 days in a row and then just suddenly stop. The phone always connects seamlessly no matter what, but the PAAK is a 25% success rate at best. Rivian came out and looked at everything and said it all looked good. Incidentally it worked perfectly for almost a week after they left but now it's back to bipolar level 10. It's a minor annoyance but it does get frustrating.
Your deal sounds way more annoying. I'm assuming you have all permissions allowed in the app? That would be my first check.

I allowed all of the permissions I could find... Was hoping there was an underlying someone knew about.

They changed paak around recently to keep the car from waking up so much. Honestly I'll take this slight annoyance over it constantly unlocking and waking up.

My S24 has become more and more unreliable when using it for PAAK over the past month or two. It almost never works when using it to get into the truck at home after it has slept all night. I have to open the app and manually unlock. Just opening the app doesn't do anything. If I go to run an errand and come back to the truck, it has no problem unlocking.

I put in a service ticket back in early January while they had my truck in for a few other things and they couldn't replicate the problem. I think it has something to do with the configuration at home.

I thought the widget was supposed to unlock the car but it seems to open the app. Anyone have luck with unlocking from the widget?

At my office, I have a Samsung mode that turns off BT when the phone connects to the Wi-Fi. That would keep the car asleep. When I get to the parking garage the Wi-Fi drops, BT comes on and the car wakes every time. I'm at a weird distance where that works. Wi-Fi doesn't usably reach the garage but bt can ping the car.

You can mess with some ideas like that and may be able to get unlocking behavior you want. On the 1+ it's more difficult because it doesn't have modes and routines. Third party apps like tasker could do that but it is a terrible app to make sense of and Android has restricted BT automation for non system apps unless you happen to have root.

Automate (llama) seems to indicate it can do this so you could mess with that.

The inconsistency everywhere is baffling.

Mine works 99% to unlock the car and connects 100% to BT it just refuses to work reliably as a Key so I'm forced to carry my keycard with me at all times and pull it out of my pocket and move it around on the tray. Except this morning. This morning it's working perfectly, SMH.

Started trialing a OnePlus 13 recently, and it works waaaay better than my Pixel 7 did as PaaK. Key thing I found was to press the app switcher button and then you can lock/unlock apps from being closed. Having the Rivian app "open" helps a lot. I do still open the app as I'm walking to it sometimes as it isn't perfect, but it is better.

K I'll try that. I thought you manage all the background apps from settings.
Thanks!

With regard to the "priority" issue I've had the same problem and ranted about it. I have a galaxy S23+ and my partner has a pixel 9. If he is ANYWHERE in the vicinity it will choose his profile. He doesn't even have to be sitting in the vehicle, if he's in the back putting the dog in, it'll choose his profile almost every time. It's infuriating.

The only reason I can think of that happening is that the Bluetooth gain on his phone is higher than mine so it reads as being closer.

I have friends with a Rivian and they both have iPhones. He says that it seems to choose the correct profile every single time, and I'll bet it's just because they're the same model of phone.

Hopefully this issue is resolved once they finally move to ultrawide band keys

Since the wife rarely drives, the easy solution is to change her profile settings to match the husbands. The husband won't get squished, and the wife won't complain until the next time she drives.

My wife and I have identical iPhones. We both have Location Services set to "When Using the App". She is listed as "Driver".

This started being a problem for me last month. The settings switch to her profile if she is in or near the car when I open the door. This happens even when her Rivian App is closed...that's the odd part, suggesting the trigger is not "Location Services". Thankfully, the seat doesn't move if my butt is already in the chair before she approaches the car.

Try an experiment. Put your phone in your pocket with the screen facing outward instead of inward towards your body and post up if it works better. I know it sounds crazy but I need some other Samsung users to verify my findings.
